Health Minister: SYP 6 Billion Spent Annually on Chronic Diseases

DAMASCUS, (SANA) – Minister of Health, Dr. Saad al-Nayef, said on Thursday that the Health Ministry spends over SYP 6 billion annually on chronic diseases, stressing the necessity of health education and spreading awareness about illnesses.

In a statement to SANA during a tour in the Specialized Medical Clinics Center in Damascus , the Minister pointed out that the center lacks some medical equipment, while medicines are available and cover all citizens' needs.

The Minister noted that the ministry is working to provide vaccinations for Thalassemia patients, stressing that importance of pre-marriage tests in limiting the Thalassemia disease.
