Jordan stressed its stance on the necessity to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria and its rejection of any military intervention in it.

"The [Jordanian] kingdom's position on what is going on in Syria has not changed and is firm with regard to standing against any military intervention and calling for a comprehensive political solution that stops the cycle of violence," the Jordanian Government's spokesman, Mohammad al-Momani, told the Agence France-Presse.

Asked on the repercussions of the crisis in Syria on Jordan, al-Momani, who is Minister of State for Media, Political and Parliamentary Affairs of Jordan, stressed that his country "is studying the situation as that has political and security repercussions."

The Jordanian government's spokesman tried to justify sending new U.S. forces to Jordan by saying that "Sending U.S. troops to Jordan comes in the framework of the usual joint cooperation between the Jordanian armed forces and the U.S. army."

He noted that contacts are going on to send 200 U.S. soldiers "within this continuous cooperation and coordination."

US Defense Secretary affirmed Wednesday the deployment of 200 U.S. soldiers in Jordan.
