UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Washington's puppet

Ban.ki.moon.Pentagon.jpg

Photo: American Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, left, escorts United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon into the Pentagon as Ban Ki-moon arrives for an honor cordon, Thursday, April 18, 2013.

Ban Ki-moon has very close ties with the American government.

He earned a Master of Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He further received an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from the University of Washington. He has been posted twice to the South Korean embassy in Washington, D.C. Between these two assignments he served as Director-General for American Affairs in 1990–1992. He was the foreign minister of South Korea from January 2004 to November 2006 and in February 2006, he began to campaign for the office of Secretary-General.

While he is continuously talking in a hypocrite way about the 'Syrian Civil War' and he continuously criticizes the Syrian government, he remains silent about the American en Saudi-Arabian arms deliveries to the so called 'Free Syrian Army' and Syrian terrorist groups. Yesterday a top commander of a foreign-backed group fighting against the Syrian government said he has received a 35-ton arms shipment from Saudi Arabia...

On March 23, 2011, the U.N. Security Council adopted a wide-ranging resolution recommending 'humanitarian' and military action inside Libya. Both U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa were assigned key roles in “coordinating” the implementation of the mandate. Just like now, Ban Ki-moon was calling for “an immediate end to violence by all parties'.  Just like now, he was talking about 'chemical weapons' and he called for a 'no-fly zone' which was just a pretext to bomb Lybia and to destroy the regime of Colonel Gadaffi. While the Lybian infrastructure was completely destroyed, he said the UN-mandated military operation was 'proving effective in protecting civilians'.

Recently Ban Ki-moon is echoing the Russian en Syrian proposes for a 'political dialogue' but at the same time he imposes unreasonable requirements that makes such a dialogue impossible. The current United States Secretary of State John Forbes Kerry, who expects a failure of political dialogue, said 'recent military gains by Assad's forces were only temporary'. So it is clear that the American government still hopes on a military intervention.

It is certainly not good for the credibility of the UN that its Secretary-General, as a friend to U.S. national interests in the United Nations, only advances U.S. and western-backed approaches in the Middle East, North Africa, and North Korea.

Syria: the dirty role of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon

Ban.Ki.Moon.Obama.jpg

Five thousand citizens evacuated from Workers' city of Adra

Dec 29, 2013

Damascus, (SANA) - More than 5 thousand citizens in the residential worker city of Adra were evacuated on Sunday by the help of the Syrian Arab army, Minister of Social Affairs Kinda al-Shammat said.

"The citizens who have been evacuated are now in a safe haven as the ministry formed a relief operations' room with the cooperation of Damascus countryside governorate to offer them the basic relief aid," the Minister said in a statement to SANA.

She affirmed that any international organization has never contacted the Ministry regarding the humanitarian file in Adra.

Armed terrorist groups, linked to Jabhat al-Nusra, the so-called Liwa al-Islam and the Islamic Front infiltrated into the workers' city of Adra on December 11, perpetrating a number of massacres there against the families, burning the houses of state employees, slaughtering a number of them and mutilating their bodies.

“They had lists of government employees on them.” “This means they had planned for it beforehand and knew who works in the governmental agencies. They went to the addresses they had on their list, forced the people out and subjected them to the so-called “Sharia trials.” I think that’s what they call it. They sentenced them to death by beheading.”

“There was slaughter everywhere.” “The eldest was only 20 years old; he was slaughtered. They were all children. I saw them with my own eyes. They killed fourteen people with a machete. I don’t know if these people were Alawites. I don’t know why they were slaughtered. They grabbed them by their heads and slaughtered them like sheep.”

“Civilians told us that the workers of an Adra bakery were all executed and burned during the first hours of the attack. Whole families were massacred. We do not have an exact estimation of the number because we are unable to get into the town, but the number is high,” Kinda Shimat, Syria’s Social Affairs Minister, told RT.

“They killed everyone at the Adra Ummalia police station,” another fugitive from the town told RT. “And they killed everyone at the Adra Ummalia hospital where my sister works. She stayed alive only because she didn’t show up for work that day. There are about 200 people at the police station. They are civilians. The militants are hiding among them, using them as a shield to prevent the Army from bombing the police.”

Israeli forces raid homes in West Bank

Israel-Palestine-arrest.jpg

Israeli forces have raided several Palestinian homes in the occupied West Bank, arresting at least nine people.

December 27, 2013

On Thursday, Israeli forces raided the Um al-Sharayet neighborhood of al-Bireh in the West Bank city of Ramallah and arrested a Palestinian.

Elsewhere, Israeli regime forces raided several homes in the city of Bethlehem and arrested four Palestinians including two brothers aged 19 and 21. Two people, including a 55-year-old, were caught in the nearby village of Beit Fajjar.

A 22-year-old Palestinian was also arrested in the Qalandia refugee camp, near Ramallah.

In addition, Israeli troops raided the Ras al-Ain neighborhood in the West Bank city of Nablus and arrested two people after raiding their homes.

Two more Palestinians were arrested in the villages of Huwwara and Burqa, located to the south and north of Nablus respectively.

Reports say Israeli forces caused extensive damage to Palestinian properties during the attacks.

The Israeli military regularly attacks different areas in East al-Quds (Jerusalem) as well as the occupied West Bank to arrest Palestinian activists and civilians mostly without any charges.

On November 17, Israeli forces attacked the village of Abu Dis in East al-Quds (Jerusalem), injuring 40 people including university students.

On November 15, four Palestinian children, aged five to nine, were handcuffed and detained by Israeli forces for more than an hour. The Israeli soldiers arrested the children during a protest rally in Kafr Qaddum, a village in the north of the occupied West Bank.

According to Palestinian rights groups, over a dozen Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces in the first half of 2013. Israeli troops also seized nearly 1,800 Palestinians, including women and children, during the same period.

Christmas Mass held in churches across Syria

Syria's Muslims and Christians share a single destiny

Dec 25, 2013 - Provinces, (SANA) – In deference to the current circumstances in Syria, Christmas celebrations were limited to holding mass and prayers in churches and places of worship across the country.

In St. George Cathedral in Damascus, Archbishops Jean Qawaq and Matthew al-Khuory, and Archbishop al-Khory recited a message from Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East and Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, Ignatius Zakka I Iwas.

In his message, Patriarch Iwas reaffirmed that Syria is the eternal home of Syriacs, reiterating calls for resolving the crisis via dialogue and political solutions and stressing that Syria's Muslims and Christians share a single destiny.

He called upon the countries that will participate in the "Geneva 2" conference to cease their support for terrorists who are bound to turn against them one day.

Patriarch Iwas reiterated calls for releasing Bishops John Ibrahim and Paul Yazigi and the nuns of St. Thecla Convent who were abducted by terrorists.

He said that there are attempts by certain sides to expel Christians from the Middle East, asserting that there can be no Middle East without Christianity and no Christianity without the Middle East, adding "the See of Antioch will never in any day be located in Stockholm, Frankfurt or Los Angeles."

Patriarch Iwas concluded his message by offering season's greetings to President Bashar al-Assad and the Syrian people and praying for Syria and its martyrs.

In the National Evangelical Church in Damascus, Pastor Peter Zaour headed the mass in which he prayed for the cessation of bloodshed and the restoration of stability and security to Syria.

Pastor Zaour called upon Syrians to stand fast in the face of the conspiracy targeting them and their land and to put their faith in God, parying for the abducted bishops and nuns and all other abductees.

He prayed to God to bless President Bashar al-Assad and grant him health, concluding by stressing that the conspiracy seeking to destroy Syria is doomed to fail.

Until today, over 10,000 foreign salafi mercenary terrorists have been killed Syria by the Syrian Arab Army

Dec 24, 2013

Until today, over 10,000 foreign salafi mercenary terrorists have been killed Syria by the Syrian Arab Army

A Salafi movement in Jordan has revealed that over 10,000 foreign militants were killed in Syria since the foreign-hatched conflict hit the country in 2011.

The so-called Jordanian Jihadi Salafi Movement said that some 9936 extremist militants from different parts of the world, especially from Tunisia, Libya and Iraq, have been killed during the nearly three years of conflict in Syria, Manama Voice news agency reported on Monday.

Some 1902 Tunisians, 1807 Libyans, 1432 Iraqis, 800 Palestinians and 202 Jordanians were among the victims. Many extremists are trying to destabilize Syria under the banner of al-Qaeda terrorist network.

According to the data, some 828 Lebanese, 821 Egyptians, 714 Saudis, 571 Yemenis, 412 Moroccans, 274 Algerians, 71 Kuwaitis, 42 Somalis, 21 Bahrainis, 19 Omanis, 9 Emiratis, 8 Qataris, 3 Sudanese, 1 Mauritians, and nearly 30 others from Caucasus and Albania have lost their lives in Syria conflict.

The report says most of the dead are affiliated to the terrorist groups of al-Nusra Front and the Islamic States of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Other news reports say several extremists from Europe, America and Australia are fighting in Syria.

A recent British defense study showed that about 100,000 militants, fragmented into 1,000 groups, are fighting in Syria against the government and people.

The extracts of the study by defense consultancy, IHS Jane’s, were published on September 16.

IHS Jane’s estimates that some 10,000 militants are fighting for groups affiliated with al-Qaeda such as al-Nusra Front, and the rest fight for different militant groups.

victim.of.the.saudi.war.on.Syria.jpg

Dec 21, 2013

Damascus, (SANA) - Prime Minister, Dr. Wael al-Halqi said Western countries and Arab regimes backing terrorists will pay a heavy price for their support to terrorist groups who are shedding the blood of the Syrians.

During his meeting with an Australian solidarity delegation currently in Syria, al-Halqi pointed to the importance of such visits to convey the reality of what the Syrian people have been facing, hoping that the delegation will convey the true image as they experienced it first-hand to the public opinion.

Premier al-Halqi highlighted the political, military, ideological and economic dimensions of the war waged against Syria due to its support to resistance, indicating that Syria remains committed to its support to the Palestinian cause and its right to restore the occupied Golan.

The Syrian army is fighting terrorists coming from 83 countries, indoctrinated with extreme views that preach killing and violence, the Prime Minister affirmed.

He stressed that the Syrian economy has proved its resilience in the war that has targeted all its components, despite systematic sabotage of infrastructure, schools, universities and factories that have all failed to break the will of the Syrian people.

The government is fully carrying out its duties as it is compensating for the crisis-hit families and providing makeshift centers for the displaced in parallel with the war against terrorism ahead of Geneva II conference.

Al-Halqi hailed the stances of the Australian people and national parties who have stood by the Syrian people, drawing a line between the popular and official public opinion in Australia and elsewhere around the world.

The delegation members, for their part, expressed regret over the participation of Australian citizens alongside the armed terrorist groups in Syria, affirming that they are determined to convey the reality of what they saw in Syria and the normal life they witnessed in Damascus.

The Australian delegation comprises activists from the "Hands Off Syria" movement and academic, media and political figures.

Syria Views Saudi Arabia As Enemy No.1

war.on.syria.faisal_muqdad.jpg

The so called ‘civil war’ in Syria, is a war from the US and its allies. And Saudi Arabia which is a good ally of the U.S. and Israel, arms Al Qaeda fighters to colonize Syria and the Middle East...

Syria Views Saudi Arabia As Enemy No.1: “Al-Qaeda didn’t come from Mars but from Saudi Arabia, from the Wahhabi, extremist way of thinking”

Syria views Saudi Arabia as its number one enemy and accuses it of trying to destroy the country by arming jihadists and other rebels fighting against the Syrian government.

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Muqdad told AFP this week that Saudi Arabia was providing unfettered support for “terrorist groups” in Syria, while other nations had reviewed their positions.

“I think that all those who supported these terrorist groups have the feeling now that they have made big mistakes,” Muqdad said in an interview on Thursday.

“The only party who is declaring the full support to the terrorist groups, to Al-Qaeda, is Saudi Arabia,” he said.

Muqdad urged the world to press Saudi Arabia to halt its support for the rebels, to prevent what he said was “another 11 September incident”.

“I think that if the world wants to avoid another 11 September incident, they must start telling Saudi Arabia ‘enough is enough’,” he said, referring to Al-Qaeda’s 2001 attacks on the US.

Earlier this month, Syrian government urged the United Nations to take a stand against Saudi support for Islamist groups whose influence has grown on the battlefield.

“We call on the UN Security Council to take the necessary measures to put an end to the unprecedented actions of the Saudi regime, which is supporting takfiri terrorism tied to Al-Qaeda,” the foreign ministry said in a message to UN chief Ban Ki-moon.

It was the first time the Syrian government has appealed to the international body to take action against Riyadh.

“Saudi Arabia is not content to merely send weapons and to finance but also mobilises extremist terrorists and sends them to kill the Syrian people,” the Syrian message said.

Lavrov: West started to grasp danger of Jihadists taking Syria's helm

Moscow, Dec 20, 2013 (SANA) - The West has started to grasp the danger of Jihadists taking over power in Syria, Russia's Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov said in an interview on Friday.

"Both in private conversations and public comments some western politicians have started voicing their thoughts that given that Jihadists and terrorists who are building up their influence in Syria, occupying territories, immediately introducing Sharia law after it, massacring minorities and burning people alive only because they are adherents of a different faith, President Bashar al-Assad being the leader of Syria is not a threat as is the case if Jihadists take the country over," the Russian Foreign Minister told RIA Novosti news agency.

Almost all the participants and organizers of an international conference on Syria which is to take place in Geneva on January 22 next year, agree on the importance of Iran taking part in the forum, Russian Foreign Minister said in the interview.

"There are signs of positive impact Iran could have on the settling process of the Syrian conflict. Almost everybody talks about it in private conversations and some officials have started speaking publicly in favor of Iran taking part in the conference," he said.

According to Lavrov, "those who oppose the participation of Iran do this coming from ideological considerations rather than common interests".

Latest News Syria: Russian Embassy

Damascus, (SANA)-The Russian Embassy in Damascus announced on Thursday that reports of some news agencies about statements attributed to Michael Bogdanov, the special representative of the Russian President and Deputy Foreign Minister on President Bashar al-Assad's running for presidency is categorically untrue.

"The original text of the press interview with Mr Bogdanov is published on Russian INTERFAX website and the Russian Foreign Ministry," the embassy said in response to SANA question.

It added that the stance of Russia towards solution to the crisis in Syria didn't change, as Moscow still convinced that all issues related to Syria future, including who will be the president, should be solved by the Syrians, through national dialogue and without any foreign intervention with intensifying the efforts of all sides to overcome terrorism in Syria as the upcoming Geneva conference would be a serious opportunity for that.

June 20, 2013 - ‘Syrian Rebels: We’ve Received Heavy Weapons from Saudis’: The first delivery of heavy weapons has arrived on Syria’s front lines following President Barack Obama’s decision to put Western military might behind the official opposition, rebels told the British Daily Telegraph. More have now arrived, confirming reports that the White House has lifted an unofficial embargo on its Gulf allies sending heavy weapons to the rebels. “We now have supplies from Saudi Arabia,” a rebel source said. “We have been told more weapons are on their way, even higher-end missiles.” European Union foreign ministers agreed at the end of May to lift an arms embargo in order to supply weapons to Syrian rebels, but British Foreign Secretary William Hague said at the time that “no immediate decision” would be made on sending arms to the rebels.  ”Terrorists will return to Europe with fighting experience and extremist ideologies,” President Assad told the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/169117#.Up9x2MTuK5U

Diplomats and experts warned that there are serious doubts about its prospects as well as fears of “blowback” by extremists returning from Syria. The Saudi intelligence chief, Prince Bandar bin Sultan, is also pressing the US to drop its objections to supplying anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles to the JAI. Latest News Syria: people of occupied Golan

December 14, 2013

On anniversary of Israel’s annexation, people of occupied Golan remain resistant

Occupied Golan, (SANA)- Syrian citizens in the occupied Syrian Golan affirmed commitment to their Syrian Arab identity on the 32nd anniversary of the Zionist Knesset evil decision to annex the Golan to its entity.

The Syrian citizens Saturday issued a statement rejecting the Israeli decision, showing determination to resist the occupation and its decisions aiming at distorting the civilized, cultural features, confiscating the land, water and applying the Israeli null laws on the Golan.

“We aspire with big longing to the day of liberation at the hands of the Syrian Arab army under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad,” the statement said.

It affirmed full support to the national document issued by the meeting of the Muslim Muahideen Aqel Sheiks in Lebanon and Syria held in Jabal al-Arab which expressed belonging the homeland, and that Golan is part and parcel of Syria.

The Israeli occupation authorities on December 14th, 1981 applied the decision of annexing the Golan when the Syrian citizens rejected the Israeli identity and staged broad popular protests.

Driven by their unfaltering adherence to the Syrian identity and homeland, the people of Golan announced their rejection of the Israeli so-called “Annexation Law” immediately upon its announcement, moving to political and struggle work in defiance.

They declared general strikes, the most explosive of which was in February 14, 1982 which lasted 6 months to abrogate the Israeli law and ended up in burning the Israeli identity cards which they were forced upon them in the squares of the villages.

The Syrian government then succeeded in bringing the UN Security Council to convene and look into the Israeli decision. Resolution 497 came out deeming Israel’s practices and imposition of its laws and administrative legislations in Golan as null and legally ineffective on the international level, and demanding their cancellation.

The United Nations have issued many decisions stressing that the Israeli annexation decision is null and demanding withdrawal from the Golan. However, Israel has been trampling on these decisions and continuing its despotic practices against the people of Golan.

The latest of such decisions was last November when the UN General Assembly adopted once again a resolution demanding Israel to fully withdraw from the Syrian Golan to the line of June 4th, 1967 so as to implement the relevant UN Security Council’s resolutions.

The General Assembly stressed then that the continued Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan and its annexation de facto constitute a stumbling block in front of achieving just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East region.

Territories of the Syrian Golan still under occupation cover 1 percent of Syria over 1860 km2, including 6 villages. Those are Majdal Shams, Mas’ada, Baq’atha, Ein Qenieh, al-Ghajar and Sahita.

However, in 1971-1972 the inhabitants of Sahita were displaced and moved to Mas’ada and the village was destroyed by the occupation authorities and turned into a camp.

Israel continued establishing settlements in Golan, whose number amounted to 35 build on the ruins of the Syrian villages. The number of minefields in the occupied Golan planted by Israel however is 76, some inside the inhabited villages.

These practices aim at desperately trying to change the demographic equation of the Golan and to import thousands of settlers to invest in it so as to follow the Israeli economic structure, an attempt that keeps failing as it collides with the strong love for and unswerving belief in the homeland driving the people of Golan.

Israel’s violations of international laws and resolutions have gone beyond continuing the occupation of the Golan to that of using its land as a passage for the terrorists who have streamed into Syria from all corners of the world, proving itself on the top of the forces of terrorism and criminality which have joined hands to strike Syria and the resistance in the region.

The Wall Street Journal recently revealed new details about how Prince Bandar bin Sultan al-Saud — Saudi’s former ambassador to the United States — is leading the effort to prop up the Syrian rebels. Intelligence agents from Saudi Arabia, the United States, Jordan and other allied states are working at a secret joint operations center in Jordan to train and arm hand-picked Syrian 'rebels'. The Journal also reports Prince Bandar has been jetting from covert command centers near the Syrian front lines to the Élysée Palace in Paris and the Kremlin in Moscow, seeking to undermine the Assad regime. He’s reprising a role that he played in the 1980s when he worked with the Reagan administration to arrange money and arms for mujahideen fighters in Afghanistan and also worked with the CIA in Nicaragua to support the Contras.

West Makes Ukraine A Battlefield In New East-West Conflict

Xinhua News Agency

December 13, 2013

Commentary: Western powers should respect Ukraine over domestic affairs

BEIJING: Western powers have attempted to manipulate the opinions of the Ukrainian people over whether the country should sign a key trade and association pact with the European Union (EU).

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland flew to Kiev and offered support to protesters in Independence Square, joining the league of the opposition demanding the fall of democratically-elected President Viktor Yanukovich.

Nuland is far from the only Western politician who has gone to cheer on the protesters. German foreign minister Guido Westerwelle toured the heart of the protest camp with two opposition leaders, telling them that “Ukraine should be on board with Europe.”

Meanwhile, U.S. lawmakers warned of sanctions, while EU’s foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton told reporters in Kiev that Yanukovich had promised a solution within 24 hours...

US’s chemical weapons stockpile is three times more than that of Syria

Three decades after the United States started destroying its own chemical weapons, the nation’s stockpile stands at more than 3,000 tons — about three times what the U.S. now says Syrian President Bashar Assad controls.

A total of 20 million gallons of dioxin-containing herbicide was sprayed by U.S. aircraft on at least 10 percent of what was once South Vietnam over 3.6 million acres, much of it populated, even heavily populated.

Peace Talks Syria: the enduring lies of the American government

15,000 anti-tank missiles to Saudi Arabia

Chuck Hagel announced during the weekend forum that the US has no intention of scaling back its military presence (read: arms sales) in the Persian Gulf despite the recent diplomatic detente with Iran. «Diplomacy, must be backed up with military power,» Hagel told delegates. The Pentagon chief also disclosed that the US was going ahead with the sale of 15,000 anti-tank missiles to Saudi Arabia worth $1 billion. These missiles will probably end up in the hands of Al Qaeda militants waging a war of terror against Syria for the Western-backed objective of regime change in that country. Ironically, and ludicrously, the British Foreign Secretary William Hague warned delegates that «extremists» operating in Syria (with the covert support of the US, Britain and Saudi Arabia among others) present a grave security threat to the Middle East region and Europe.”

In LA he started taking drugs, and ended up on heroin. Meanwhile, he failed to make it into Hollywood’s charmed circle and bombed as a film-maker. ”

Saudi Arabia receives just $9,000 in foreign aid from the US a year, though the US does sell it a lot of military hardware. In 2010, the US made the largest arms sale in its history, selling $60 billion’s worth of jets and attack helicopters to the Arab kingdom. Saudi Arabia is also a major exporter of oil to the US, though its highly unlikely OPEC would support a slow down or boycott over the kingdom’s political gripes with the US.  Israeli personnel in recent days were in Saudi Arabia to inspect bases that could be used as a staging ground to launch attacks against Iran, according to informed Egyptian intelligence officials

Latest News Syria: Kurds

Syria’s Democratic Union Party (PYD) hopes to create an autonomous Kurdish region in a federal Syria, PYD leader Saleh Muslim has told Agence France-Presse in an interview.

Speaking during a visit to France, Muslim confirmed that a commission was in the process of preparing a Constitution for the northeastern and northwestern regions of Syria that are majority Kurdish.

“The [Syrian] Kurdistan region will be divided into three autonomous provinces: Kobani [center], Afrin [west] and Qamishli [east],” he said, speaking through a Kurdish-French translator. “The goal is not to secede, but the Kurds want a federal system in Syria.”

Syria’s Kurds make up around 15 percent of the population and are mostly concentrated in the northeast and northwest of the country, along the Turkish and Iraqi borders. They have walked a careful line during Syria’s uprising, declining to actively join either the government or the rebels, and instead focusing on building autonomy in Kurdish-majority regions.

Prague, (SANA) - Slovakian Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak said it is important that the West and Europe defend the principles and work course regarding the crisis in Syria, which he added is being manifested in setting a date for the international Geneva 2 conference.

In an interview with the Czech Paper Pravo, published Friday, Lajack highlighted the importance of putting pressure on the main players concerned with the situation in Syria to sit around the dialogue table.

He criticized the “wrong” stances adopted by the west regarding Syria in the past two years.

“In a situation like in Syria, it’s always wrong to play the role of active supporter and lawyer on behalf of one of the sides of the crisis,” Lajcak said.

The international conference due on Syria has been scheduled to be held on 22nd of next January.

Jihadists in northern Syria have kidnapped more than 50 Kurds in the past three days, in the second such case of mass hostage-taking since July, a monitoring group said Thursday...

December 5, 2013

The kidnappings come months into major battles for control of several parts of northern Syria that have pitted Kurdish fighters against jihadists, chiefly the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

"In the past three days, ISIL has kidnapped at least 51 Kurds in the towns of Minbej and Jarablus," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Among the hostages were nine children and a woman, said the Britain-based group, adding that there was no information on where they had been taken.

Nelson Mandela is dead

December 5, 2013 (20 minutes ago)

South African President Jacob Zuma announced that Mandela, "the founding president of our democratic nation, has departed," adding that he "passed on peacefully."

"Our nation has lost its greatest son. Our people have lost a father," Zuma said.

"Our thoughts are with the millions of people who embraced Mandela as their own and who saw his cause as their cause.… This is the moment of our deepest sorrow.”

"The time comes in the life of any nation when there remain only two choices - submit or fight. That time has now come to South Africa. We shall not submit and we have no choice but to hit back by all means in our power in defence of our people, our future, and our freedom."
