Hundreds of British jihadis returning from fight in Syria

As a reminder: 'Hundreds of British jihadis returning from fight in Syria spark terror alert in UK'

The terrorism threat to the UK posed by individuals who have trained and fought in Syria is "a big problem" for the security services and police, the immigration minister has said.

James Brokenshire told the BBC "a significant and growing proportion" of their resources was spent on the issue.

He said it was right to be "vigilant" about travel between the UK and Syria.

According to the Sunday Times, security services are "closely monitoring" 250 British-based jihadis linked to Syria.

The authorities are concerned that such people may be radicalised and militarised - and urged by those they come into contact with in Syria to turn their attentions away from the Syrian government and instead attack targets in the West.

Militants with suspected links to al-Qaeda have been heading to war-torn Syria from many other countries since fighting broke out in 2011.

Last week, a video was posted online showing British man Abdul Waheed Majid, who is thought to have carried out a suicide bombing in the city of Aleppo.

The 41-year-old, from Crawley, West Sussex, was believed to have bombed a jail on 6 February.

In an interview with Radio 4's The World This Weekend, Mr Brokenshire said he believed the "security concern" linked to Syria was "likely to be with us for the foreseeable future".

"A significant proportion and a growing proportion of the security services work is linked to Syria in some way," he said.

"This is a big problem that the security services and the police are actively focused on.

"It's why they are vigilant, why they are taking the steps that they are around the border and monitoring travel to and from Syria in the way that they are."

The Sunday Times says the number of individuals being monitored by MI5 and the police is much higher than previously reported, underlining "the growing danger posed by 'extremist tourists'".

Throughout January, 16 people were arrested on suspicion of terror offences after travelling between Syria and the UK - that compares with 24 in the whole of 2013.

Sir Peter Fahy, who leads the Association of Chief Police Officer's "Prevent" strategy on counter-terrorism, told the BBC last month those returning from Syria "may well be charged and investigated, but they will be put into our programmes".

He said those programmes saw police work with local agencies such as schools and youth organisations, "essentially to make sure these people haven't been affected and try and make sure they're not a threat to this country".

Last week, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said there were "a few hundred people going out there".

"They may be injured or killed, but our biggest worry is when they return they are radicalised, they may be militarised, they may have a network of people that train them to use weapons."

National solidarity and unity will stop the war on Syria

syria.united

National solidarity of the suffering Syrian people and respect for Syria’s sovereignity is the only way to change the long colonial history:

‘Ancient Syria was conquered by Egypt about 1500 B.C. , and after that by Hebrews, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Persians, and Alexander the Great of Macedonia. From 64 B.C. until the Arab conquest in A.D. 636, it was part of the Roman Empire except during brief periods. The Arabs made it a trade center for their extensive empire, but it suffered severely from the Mongol invasion in 1260 and fell to the Ottoman Turks in 1516. Syria remained a Turkish province until World War I. A secret Anglo-French pact of 1916 put Syria in the French zone of influence. The League of Nations gave France a mandate over Syria after World War I, but the French were forced to put down several nationalist uprisings. In 1930, France recognized Syria as an independent republic but still subject to the mandate. After nationalist demonstrations in 1939, the French high commissioner suspended the Syrian constitution.’

UN resolutions critical of Israel blocked

1) On November 15, 2010, U.S. President Barack Obama praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for urging his cabinet to accept a U.S. proposal to extend a freeze on West Bank settlement building for 90 days. Under the plan, Washington would block UN resolutions critical of Israel, and supply Israel with fighter jets worth $3 billion. The US government also promised Israel that after the 90-day moratorium, they would not seek an extension, and settlement construction in the West Bank and East Jerusalem (all of which is illegal under international law) could continue unabated.

2) In February 2011, more than 100 nations voted for a U.N. resolution that would have condemned illegal Israeli settlements and halted any new construction. The United States vetoed it.

3) On February 19, 2011, Israel said it was deeply grateful to the United States after it vetoed a United Nations resolution put forward by the Palestinian leadership condemning Israeli settlement activity.

4) On  Oct 27, 2011, Israeli jetfighters engaged in aerial bombing of the Palestinian city of Khan Yunes in the Gaza Strip.

Latest News Syria: Russian aid

Russian.aid.aircraft.jpg

Two Russian aid aircrafts have landed in Syria’s port city of Latakia carrying humanitarian supplies for the Syrian people who are not only suffering from a deadly foreign-charged war but also US-led sanctions on economic trades including food products.

Head of the Department for International Affairs of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies, Alexander Tomashov, said that the aid stresses the Russian people's support to the Syrian government and people, hoping the crisis will end soon.

Tomashov said Russia will also send more aid, including large amounts of various kinds of medicine.

The aircrafts which arrived in al-Bassel Airport were loaded with 52 tons of different sorts of relief materials.

Russia has sent dozens of planes loaded with humanitarian aid to Syria, the last of which were two planes loaded with 32 tones of humanitarian aid sent on 30th of last December.

On his return from recent talks over Syrian crisis in Switzerland, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem criticized the US and its Western allies for adopting double standards toward Syria.

He asked European Union's foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton to explain how can the West put a ban on food products yet at the same time discuss the issue of humanitarian aid shipments.

Syria sank into war in March 2011 when pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of Western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

U.S. undermining Geneva II

Obama-wins-Peace-Prize.jpg

US fuelling Syrian carnage

Jan 30, 2014

The United States increased more than twice its supply of light weaponry and munitions to militants linked to the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA)’s Supreme Military Command in the month of January.

Accordingly, the country has delivered over 600 tons of military aid to militants since the launch of the Geneva II crisis talks in Switzerland on January 22.

The Supreme Military Command is aligned to the Western-backed opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC) which is currently in talks with the government.

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Feisal al-Meqdad has slammed Washington for supporting “terrorist groups,” with Damascus issuing a separate statement accusing the US of “undermining” the Geneva II talks.

The opposition and its Western supporters insist that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad must step down and a transitional government be formed in Syria.

Damascus rejects the demand, arguing that the foreign-backed SNC does not represent the Syrian opposition.

Syria gov't slams U.S. rearmament of rebels as undermining Geneva II

2014-1-29

DAMASCUS, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Syrian official delegation to the Geneva II conference slammed on Tuesday the U.S. decision to restart sending non-lethal help to the Syrian rebels, saying the move aims to thwart the success of the peace talks, according to the state-run SANA news agency.

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said the U.S. decision "aims at thwarting the conference," stressing that the side which provides weapons to terrorist groups doesn't care about the conference's success.

"The U.S. decision is a very bad message because Washington has launched this conference, and it should not support the armed terrorist groups as they know that the weapons, which had been previously sent, flowed into the terrorists," Mekdad said, according to SANA.

The remarks came a day after Western reports said that Washington has restarted sending non-lethal aid to the "moderate" rebels in Syria, after suspending its previous aid for a month.

The latest move raised the ire of the Syrian government.

Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi said that the U.S. decision reflects Washington's backtracking on the political solution.

He wondered: "How can the U.S. position be supportive to Geneva II and aim at reaching a political solution when at the same time it supports, creates and backs up terrorism, violence and the military option?"

For her part, Syria's Presidential Political and Media Advisor Bouthaina Shaaban said that the U.S. decision is contradictory to the efforts exerted by Russia, the U.S., and the international community for launching the Geneva II conference.

She refuted the U.S. allegations on so-called "non-lethal weapons," saying that all of the weapons that are being funneled inside Syria, end up in the hands of the radical groups.

The Geneva II conference has started last week and will end on Friday. However, no breakthrough has resulted from the conference so far as both the opposition and government delegations are holding tight to their demands.

The Syrian government wants the conference to focus on fighting terrorism while the opposition's delegation wants the establishment of a transitional government with full executives without any role for President Bashar al-Assad.

Anti-colonialism - Right to self-determination: Gamal Abdel Nasser

nasser.Egypt.solidarity.arab people.jpg

Gamal Abdel Nasser led the 1952 Egyptian revolution that overthrew the corrupt and ineffective monarchy of King Farouk. Nasser was born into a working-class family in Asyut province. His father was a postal clerk. Nasser graduated from the Royal Military Academy in Cairo and served in the Sudan. He fought in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War at Falluja, where Egyptian forces held out against Israel until the war's end. After the 1948 war, Nasser and other junior officers blamed King Farouk for the war's substandard weaponry and lack of military strategy.

Nasser was one of the founders of the secret Free Officers group that was determined to oust Farouk and set Egypt on a different path. Although the older and better-known Brigadier-General Muhammad Naguib was put forward to the public as the head of the officers' group, Nasser was in fact the acknowledged leader. He was known for carefully listening to all viewpoints and then making decisions. On July 22, 1952, the Free Officers overthrew the monarchy in a practically bloodless coup d'état. A Revolutionary Command Council (RCC) was established with Naguib as its head. Nasser and Naguib clashed over whether to keep a parliamentary system or to establish a one-party state with populist support, a course Nasser favored. The majority of the officers favored Nasser, and a single party, the Liberation Rally, was established in 1953. After a failed assassination attempt on Nasser in 1954, the Muslim Brotherhood, with whom Naguib had close ties, was banned, and Naguib was removed from power. A new constitution was implemented in 1956 and Nasser was elected president by a huge majority of Egyptian voters. He was twice reelected to the position. A highly charismatic figure and a brilliant speaker in colloquial Arabic, Nasser was extremely popular with the majority of Egyptians and among average Arabs everywhere.

Not an ideologue, Nasser was a pragmatic political leader who sought to develop Egypt economically and socially. He moved toward socialism and the Soviet Union after his requests for military aid had been rebuffed by the United States. His regime jailed members of both the Egyptian Communist Party and the Muslim Brotherhood on the right.

After attending the Bandung Conference in 1955, Nasser joined with Jawaharlal Nehru of India and Marshal Tito of Yugoslavia in championing positive neutralism, in which Third World nations would not forge solid alliances with either the United States or the Soviet Union in the cold war but would instead act in their own best interests. Neither of the superpowers liked this approach, but the United States was particularly hostile to it. Steering a neutral course, Nasser opposed the Western-led CENTO/Baghdad Pact and opposed Arab regimes such as the Hashemite monarchies in Iraq and Jordan and the conservative, extremely pro-Western Saudi Arabian monarchy.

Nasser also spoke of Egypt belonging to three circles: the Arab, African, and Islamic worlds. Under Nasser, Egypt became a center for African and Arab political leaders and students. Although he was personally a devout Muslim, Nasser was committed to secular government and persecuted Islamists, particularly the Muslim Brotherhood, which sought to establish a state based on Muslim religious law and practice.

Like all Arab leaders, Nasser supported the Palestinian cause and their right to self-determination. He permitted some fedayeen (self-sacrificers) guerrilla attacks from the Egyptian-administered Gaza Strip in Israel, but he also recognized the superiority of Israel's military. Consequently he initially sought, through back channels, to negotiate settlements to the conflict with Israel. Israel insisted on face-to-face negotiations, and the attempts all failed.

In 1956 after the United States had refused to grant aid for building the Aswān Dam, Nasser nationalized the Suez Canal. The nationalization led to the 1956 Arab-Israeli War, in which Great Britain, France, and Israel jointly attacked Egypt. The war was a military loss for Egypt but a political victory after which Nasser became indisputably the most popular man in the entire Arab world.

During the so-called Arab cold war Nasser's influence dominated the liberal, progressive, and socialist governments in Syria and elsewhere, versus the conservative pro-Western monarchies, including Jordan and Saudi Arabia. With the formation of the United Arab Republic of Egypt and Syria in 1958, Nasser perhaps reached the peak of his popularity.

Following the devastating military losses in the 1967 Arab-Israeli War, Nasser accepted responsibility and resigned. Massive and generally spontaneous public demonstrations calling for his return led him to resume the Egyptian presidency, but he never regained the unquestioning support throughout the Arab world that he had previously enjoyed.

In 1970 Nasser was called upon to mediate a truce between the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and King Hussein of Jordan in the bloody war between the two. Shortly thereafter he suffered a massive heart attack, in part brought on by the tensions of the negotiation, and died in late September. Although Nasser was mistrusted and opposed in most of the West and Israel, millions of mourning Egyptians joined his funeral cortege. The legacy of Nasserism, secular pan-Arab nationalism, and state-directed socialism, spread throughout most of the Arab world during Nasser's lifetime, but declined and, except in Lebanon, largely diminished after his death.

June 20, 2013 - ‘Syrian Rebels: We’ve Received Heavy Weapons from Saudis’: The first delivery of heavy weapons has arrived on Syria’s front lines following President Barack Obama’s decision to put Western military might behind the official opposition, rebels told the British Daily Telegraph. More have now arrived, confirming reports that the White House has lifted an unofficial embargo on its Gulf allies sending heavy weapons to the rebels. “We now have supplies from Saudi Arabia,” a rebel source said. “We have been told more weapons are on their way, even higher-end missiles.” European Union foreign ministers agreed at the end of May to lift an arms embargo in order to supply weapons to Syrian rebels, but British Foreign Secretary William Hague said at the time that “no immediate decision” would be made on sending arms to the rebels.  ”Terrorists will return to Europe with fighting experience and extremist ideologies,” President Assad told the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/169117#.Up9x2MTuK5U

Latest News Syria: A Syrian woman raise her voice

Shaaban: Some points in Geneva1 communique still valid, reality requires change in priorities

Montreux, Jan 23, 2014 (SANA) – Presidential Political and Media Advisor, Dr. Bouthina Shaaban, said that some points in the Geneva1 communique are still valid but reality requires a change in priorities, on top of which would be restoring peace and stopping arming the terrorist groups.

In statements to al-Mayadeen TV, Shaaban said that "If we ask any Syrian citizen, he will say that the priority is for restoring security and stop terrorism, which will never stop until the countries that are funding and arming the terrorists vow to cease such acts."

Shaaban added that the countries that have good intentions as far as Syria is concerned agree on these priorities and the countries that have conspired against it refuse them, noting that "We hope that all sides will be convinced that the wahabi mentality endangers Syria, the region and the whole world and It is in the world's interest to stand by Syria against this mentality and leave the future of Syria for the Syrians to determine."

Syrian women raise their voices

United Nations, 22 January 2014

Nearly 50 Syrian women came together from within and outside Syria at a conference, facilitated by UN Women, from 11 to 13 January 2014 in Geneva, to appeal for peace, to call for a voice in the ongoing political negotations on their country.

Particularly during the 'Geneva II' Peace Talks that opened in Switzerland yesterday, and to draw the world's attention to the continuing tragedy facing their people.

Geneva II conference Syria: American 'dialogue'

US.israel..syrian.deal.jpg

Geneva II confab on Syria highlights gaps between Damascus, opp.

Jan 22, 2014

The Geneva II conference on the Syria crisis has revealed major differences of opinion between the Syrian government and the foreign-backed opposition from the very outset.

The much-anticipated talks kicked off on Wednesday in the Swiss city of Montreux to discuss a transition plan ahead of direct talks between the opposition and the government in Geneva on Friday.

But deep differences soon emerged with the opposition and its foreign sponsors insisting that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad must not have any role in the country’s new government.

“We agree completely with Geneva I decisions that everyone has agreed upon. I invite partners to sign on Geneva I right now during their presence here and start a transition of Assad’s power to a transitional body that will build the structure of new Syria,” said Ahmad al-Jarba, head of the so-called Syrian National Coalition.

He was referring to an earlier round of international talks on Syria held in Geneva in June 2012, where participants agreed on a transitional government with full executive powers with members from both the government and opposition.

Jarba’s remarks were echoed in comments made by US Secretary of State John Kerry, who insisted that there was no room for Assad in the future government of Syria.

“There is no way, no way possible in the imagination, that the man who has led the brutal response to his own people could regain the legitimacy to govern.”

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, however, dismissed the remarks, noting, “No one in the world has the right to confer or withdraw the legitimacy of a president, a constitution or a law, except for the Syrians themselves. This is their right.”

Muallem expressed regret that some countries attending the international conference “have the blood of Syrian people on their hands.”

The Syrian foreign minister blamed them for “exporting terrorism, as well as tools of murder” and “flooding media with lies” to cover the crimes of the mercenaries and militants they have been funding in Syria.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also called on all foreign players to “abide by basic principles of international law: respect for Syria’s sovereignty and not interfering in its internal affairs.”

He rejected the use of force in Syria and reiterated Russia’s call for dialog among Syrian parties as the only solution to the crisis that has been plaguing the Arab nation over that past three years.

Geneva 2 Syria: American ‘Peace Talks’

Geneva 2: UN retracts Iran’s invite, Syrian opposition confirms attendance

January 20, 2014

The UN has withdrawn an invitation for Iran to the January 22 Geneva 2 peace conference after Syria’s main Western-backed opposition group threatened to pull out of talks if the Islamic Republic attends.

A UN spokesperson announced Monday that UN chief Ban Ki-moon has withdrawn his invitation for Iran.

“[Ban] continues to urge Iran to join the global consensus behind the Geneva communique,” Ban’s spokesman Martin Nesirky said. “Given that it has chosen to remain outside that basic understanding, [Ban] has decided that the one-day Montreux gathering will proceed without Iran’s participation.”

Following the announcement Syria’s main opposition group – Syrian National Coalition – has confirmed its participation in the peace talks.

“We appreciate the United Nations and [UN Secretary-General] Ban Ki-moon’s understanding of our position. We think they have taken the right decision. Our participation is confirmed for 22 January,” Monzer Akbik, chief of staff of the president of the National Coalition told Reuters.

The first delivery of heavy weapons has arrived on Syria’s front lines following President Barack Obama’s decision to put Western military might behind the official opposition, rebels told the British Daily Telegraph. ”Terrorists will return to Europe with fighting experience and extremist ideologies,” President Assad told the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Syria: Syrian-Russian views identical

Syrian-Russian views identical on making Geneva 2 a success

Moscow, Jan 17, 2014 (SANA)- Foreign Ministers of Syria and Russia stressed that their countries share identical views on the need to put every effort to make a success of the international conference on Syria, known as Geneva 2, to ensure a political solution to the crisis in Syria and establish for dialogue among the Syrians.

“We exchanged views on Geneva conference and our views were identical on the necessity to  exert every effort to make the conference a success,” Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem told a press conference following talks between the two ministers in Moscow on Friday.

Al-Moallem: We want Geneva conference to ensure political solution

“We want this conference to ensure a political solution to the crisis in Syria being the safest route and meet the Syrian people’s aspirations, foremost combating terrorism,” al-Moallem said.

He added that “We believe that this conference should lay the foundation for dialogue among the Syrians without any foreign interference and with respecting Syria’s sovereignty and independence.”

Al-Moallem pointed out that he presented to his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov today a plan for security procedures for Aleppo city and asked him to make the necessary contacts to ensure the plan’s implementation and setting the “Zero Hour” to stop military operations.

He added that he informed Lavrov that “we agree in principle to exchange detainees in the Syrian prisons for abductees held by the armed groups provided that we exchange lists to determine a mechanism to put that into effect.”

Al-Moallem went on saying that he also notified Lavrov that a humanitarian aid convey was delivered to al-Ghizlaniyeh village on Thursday and another will be delivered to al-Shibani village in coordination with the UN organizations in response to the Russian side’s request.

“The success of this experiment will lead to getting it repeated in other villages if the gunmen and terrorists continue to commit to not shooting at these convoys,” he noted.

Latest News Syria: China and Russia will stop western imperialism

Russian/Chinese prevention of Syrian invasion: historic event – Rick Rozoff

Russian/Chinese prevention of Syrian invasion: historic event – Rick Rozoff

January 13, 2014

On the surface it appears that US/NATO lost in Afghanistan. But did they? According to US/NATO’s own assessments and statements Afghanistan has proven to be the testing ground for developing interoperability between NATO members and over 50 nations which provided military forces for the ongoing war in Afghanistan and the consolidation of an international military strike force. Heroin production has also increased 40 fold and has devastated the peoples of many countries while providing black monies for secret operations. There are reports that there is a possible drug route from Afghanistan, through the air base in Manas in Kyrgyzstan and into the Balkans, probably Kosovo, which is used to get Afghan opium and heroin to market with Hashim Thaçi directly implicated. According to Voice of Russia regular contributor Rick Rozoff, the lack of oversight of US military installations, such as Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo, makes it possible, if the US wants, to place even tactical nuclear weapons closer to the Russian or Iranian border. In part 2 of a 2013 year end summary Mr. Rozoff discusses those issues and more and cites Russian and Chinese moves to prevent an invasion of Syria as a major historical turning point.

231

This is John Robles, you are listening to an interview with Rick Rozoff, the owner and manager of the stop NATO website and international mailing list. This is part 2 of an interview in progress. You can find the rest of this interview on our website at voiceofrussia.com

Robles: Two points I’d like to make and then you can continue any way you’d like. You said you wanted to speak about the human toll, the heroin wreaks on the world. The US taxpayers have spent, as far as I know, the figures I saw were about $7 billion in fighting narcotics production; opium production, heroin production – in Afghanistan. I believe that figure is correct, if I’m wrong, please, tell me. So, they weren’t there to stop heroin production. They weren’t there to get rid of the Taliban, while making secret deals with them and they are going to come back in power even more powerful than they were before. So, what was the real point of 12 years in Afghanistan then?

Rozoff: Well, I mean, I know what the answer to that is, but it is not what generally is offered as an explanation for the invasion, the occupation, of Afghanistan. To read between the lines slightly all one needs to do is read Anders Fogh Rasmussen or any other NATO official on their website. I invite people to visit the NATO website, this is where you are going to find out the truth but you may have to decipher it a bit.

And what you hear again and again is that Afghanistan has proven the testing ground or the training ground for developing interoperability between NATO members and partners. Again, over 50 nations provided military forces for NATO in the ongoing war in Afghanistan. And what NATO walks away from… the Afghans, of course, have suffered a disastrous period, the region likewise and the world security has certainly not gained in any manner from this, but  NATO has walked away by having fused or integrated military units from 50 different countries.

People without any sense of history may not appreciate the significance of that fact, but for a moment, active belligerents, even in WW II, for example, I’d be surprised if formally there were more than 20 on the side of the Allies and now you’ve got 50 serving in one country, under one military command – NATO. That’s what NATO used Afghanistan for. It was simply a training ground for consolidating an international military strike force, what is referred to as the NATO Response Force, the nucleus of which will be this 50-nation alliance that NATO was able to put together inside Afghanistan.

On the question of the human toll of heroin, I’ll be brief on that but I’ll be personal. I worked in the past as a substance abuse counselor. I worked at methadone maintenance clinic. I know what heroin addiction does to people. I’ve seen young women out prostituting themselves. I’ve seen young babies left in their own feces and so forth as their parents are hunting down a fix. I know what heroin does to people. And if you multiply that on the level of hundreds of thousands or millions, and this is what is happening, this is the untold cost of the Afghan war.

And you don’t have to look too far. The Russian government will tell you what the figures are in their own country in heroin deaths and heroin addiction. The Iranian government will tell you the same. I’m sure the five nations of Central Asia can say something similar. I’m sure that Pakistan and India are suffering this as well. And this is going to take generations to rectify.

Robles: It is an insidious cycle, and I’d really like you to comment on this as well, the whole heroin cycle includes the cultivators, the farmers – right? It begins with them, it ends up with somebody dying in a stairwell in Chicago with a dirty needle in their vein or something. But in between you’ve got government officials, you’ve got even US diplomats, maybe, you’ve got the CIA, you’ve got NATO officials and everyone is making money of it. How much do you think the US and NATO have profited from the entire heroin scheme in Afghanistan?

Rozoff: That’s rich ground for speculation. I would reference, I think, as you were talking about the Golden Triangle earlier, Alfred McCoy, he is a professor, or was at least a professor at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He wrote a book on just that topic, about Southeast Asia during the war in Indo-China.

Robles: I’ve actually read that.

Rozoff: Good, talk about it. Inevitably, all the other plagues follow in the track of war: famine, disease, drug addiction, prostitution, dislocation. It is as sure as night follows day you are going to find that. However, there is a more insidious side that you are alluding to, which is that one way of, in the post-WW II period ,of financing counterinsurgency groups that aren’t officially governmental in nature is through the drug trade.

This occurred in Central America, it has occurred in South America, it has occurred in Indo-China, it has occurred in the Balkans, it is occurring currently in South and Central Asia where cutthroat mercenary outfits do the dirty work, particularly for the CIA, and in return are allowed to run narcotics trafficking, perhaps, in conjunction with US military forces, as a way of paying themselves outside of the Congressionally-scrutinized budget. You know, it is a slush fund or a secret budget of some sort. We just have to assume that’s going on.

John Robles

Syria asks UN Security Council to Prosecute Turkey for Supporting Al Qaeda Terrorists

January 1, 2014

Damascus has officially asked the UN Security Council to prosecute Turkey and all countries that support the militants operating in Syria.

In a letter to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that was released on Monday, Syria’s Ambassador to the UN Bashar Ja’afari said that aiding the militants is a blatant violation of the resolutions of the international guiding bodies, including the resolutions of the UN Security Council.

“The Turkish authorities are systematically offering help in supplying arms to terrorists operating in a number of districts” in Syria, he said.

“They support the groups which every day carry out terrorist attacks against the Syrian people, government buildings, and other infrastructure facilities,” the diplomat wrote.

Ja’afari pointed out that the terrorists “do not stop attacking hospitals, schools, Muslim and Christian shrines, diplomats and even children.”

“They were trained on the border with Syria, after which the Turkish authorities helped them penetrate the neighboring country,” the letter said.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Washington's puppet

Ban.ki.moon.Pentagon.jpg

Photo: American Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, left, escorts United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon into the Pentagon as Ban Ki-moon arrives for an honor cordon, Thursday, April 18, 2013.

Ban Ki-moon has very close ties with the American government.

He earned a Master of Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He further received an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from the University of Washington. He has been posted twice to the South Korean embassy in Washington, D.C. Between these two assignments he served as Director-General for American Affairs in 1990–1992. He was the foreign minister of South Korea from January 2004 to November 2006 and in February 2006, he began to campaign for the office of Secretary-General.

While he is continuously talking in a hypocrite way about the 'Syrian Civil War' and he continuously criticizes the Syrian government, he remains silent about the American en Saudi-Arabian arms deliveries to the so called 'Free Syrian Army' and Syrian terrorist groups. Yesterday a top commander of a foreign-backed group fighting against the Syrian government said he has received a 35-ton arms shipment from Saudi Arabia...

On March 23, 2011, the U.N. Security Council adopted a wide-ranging resolution recommending 'humanitarian' and military action inside Libya. Both U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa were assigned key roles in “coordinating” the implementation of the mandate. Just like now, Ban Ki-moon was calling for “an immediate end to violence by all parties'.  Just like now, he was talking about 'chemical weapons' and he called for a 'no-fly zone' which was just a pretext to bomb Lybia and to destroy the regime of Colonel Gadaffi. While the Lybian infrastructure was completely destroyed, he said the UN-mandated military operation was 'proving effective in protecting civilians'.

Recently Ban Ki-moon is echoing the Russian en Syrian proposes for a 'political dialogue' but at the same time he imposes unreasonable requirements that makes such a dialogue impossible. The current United States Secretary of State John Forbes Kerry, who expects a failure of political dialogue, said 'recent military gains by Assad's forces were only temporary'. So it is clear that the American government still hopes on a military intervention.

It is certainly not good for the credibility of the UN that its Secretary-General, as a friend to U.S. national interests in the United Nations, only advances U.S. and western-backed approaches in the Middle East, North Africa, and North Korea.
