KERRY IS CONNECTED WITH VERNON JORDAN AND CONSEQUENTLY WITH EVELYN DE ROTHSCHILD

" In the 2004 presidential campaign, [VERNON] JORDAN led debate preparation and negotiation efforts on behalf of John Kerry, the Democratic nominee for President. That year he was elected president of the Economic Club of Washington." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vernon_Jordan_Jr.
" LYNN [the wife of EVELYN DE ROTHSCHILD] is the CEO of ELR Holdings and became a director of The Economist in 2002. She launched FirstMark Communications in the late 1990s and got EVELYN DE ROTHSCHILD, Henry Kissinger, VERNON JORDAN (senior managing director LAZARD; close Clinton friend and advisor; friend of EVELYN DE ROTHSCHILD; permanent Bilderberg visitor), Michael J. Price (former managing director LAZARD), Nathan Myhrvold (former CEO Microsoft; PPI Task Force member), and others as its initial directors."
" In late August 2004, Clinton and his wife Hillary, EVELYN DE ROTHSCHILD, LYNN DE ROTHSCHILD, VERNON JORDAN, and Prince Andrew were all hanging out at the Vineyard at their very own "Anyone but Bush" party. " British imperialist Cecil Rhodes, whose will expresses his intention for "the ultimate recovery of the United States of America as an integral part of the British Empire," would be highly satisfied that Kerry's first stop is Britain. British Ambassador to the U.S. Sir Peter Westmacott told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell today, "We are very pleased that [Kerry] is beginning this first tour in London, and that feels to us kind of right... and there's an awful lot of things for [Kerry and British PM David Cameron] to talk about... [F]ront and center on the agenda are bound to be what are we going to do about Syria " http://larouchepac.com/node/25613
" " David Cameron also stayed on the Rothschild estate during a summer holiday, two years ago. "
" What we do know is that in the space of a week Peter Mandelson and George Osborne and his family arrived on Corfu at the invitation - or at least with the blessing - of their then mutual friend, the financier Nat Rothschild............After all, two of the world's most powerful figures, the controversial Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska and the media mogul Rupert Murdoch, would also be within the Rothschild orbit that week. "
" The festivities began on the night of August 15, when Lord [JACOB] ROTHSCHILD, Nat's father, threw a 50th birthday party for his close friend Maya Schoenburg, the former wife of Mercedes-Benz heir Mick Flick.
Among the 40 diners at the bash were Tory Shadow Chancellor Osborne and his writer wife, Frances. No surprise there. Osborne and Nat Rothschild have known each other since childhood, and were members of the notorious Bullingdon drinking club while at Oxford together. "

War on Syria: U.S. Companies in Belgium, Pentagon

Belgian Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo is feeling lucky. Belgium’s search for investment has paid off, with internet giant Google GOOG +3.14% expanding its Belgian data center, just outside Mons, where he was mayor until becoming PM. Google said it is investing €300 million in the expansion, and that the facility will be one of the most energy efficient data centers in the world, using around 50% less energy than typical data centers. “Google’s significant investment shows that Belgium is a key business destination, including for new technologies,” said Elio Di Rupo. “Although we’re going through difficult economic times, we keep attracting major investments from international companies.”

The U.S. ranks as Belgium’s 5th principal trading partner; with Belgium ranked 18th for largest U.S. trading partner.  Bilateral trade was worth over $41 billion for the year 2010.

Are US Companies Important to Belgium?

AmCham Belgium’s answer is a resounding YES, based on research that we carried out for our new report The Importance of US Companies in Belgium published on March 14. Our research revealed that the 50 largest US companies in Belgium employed 90,334 people and contributed €1.7 billion to government finances in taxes and social security in 2011, the last year for which official data are available.

The report includes an updated listing of the US Top 50 Companies in Belgium ranked by number of employees.  With 14,059 employees, ManpowerGroup tops our list for the second year in a row. Looking at the historical presence of US companies in Belgium, the top 10 companies in our list have been active in Belgium an average of 62 years. As Marcel Claes, Chief Executive of AmCham Belgium, said at the launch event, “These companies are here for the long term, and they want to be here for the long term.” What then is drawing them to Belgium?

People first

The Importance of US Companies in Belgium report was launched with a panel discussion between representatives of three of the US Top 50 companies. The panelists were quick to praise Belgium’s highly educated, multilingual and flexible workforce. This is important for Coca-Cola and Pfizer, both of which have major research centers in Belgium, and for Accenture whose ‘product’ is its people. Eric Lonbois of Accenture said, “Access to skills is very crucial.” He went further, equally stressing the mindset. Belgians tend to be very open towards other cultures, which is an important consideration for international companies.

Need for stability

The picture isn’t entirely rosy, however. The US Top 50 companies employed 2.3% fewer people in 2011 than in 2010. Asked for areas where Belgium can improve, all of the panelists called for stability. Peter Menu of Pfizer said it best: “I think that we need stability… We love to plan, in 1 year, in 5 years, in 10 years.” It’s difficult for companies that make big investments in Belgium to explain to their American headquarters that the rules have changed in the middle of the game.

Competitiveness was another concern. This includes not only the high cost of labor but also the tax regime. Jean Eylenbosch of Coca-Cola described the country as a sponge: “It’s small, it’s flat but it absorbs everything.” This has led Coca-Cola’s products to be 20-30% more expensive here than just across the border in France or Luxembourg.

Conclusion

Yes, US companies have made a significant and longstanding contribution to Belgium. The overall figures from the report are impressive to be certain – 90,334 employees, €1.7 billion – and this is not even the complete picture. Our research did not take into account two other important factors: indirect employment and employees’ fiscal contribution. In the pharmaceutical industry, for example, the multiplier has been placed at 2.5 – that is, for every employee hired by a pharma company, another 2.5 jobs on average are created outside of the company. Moreover, the US Top 50 companies paid out nearly €5 billion in wages and salaries, on which their employees must also pay taxes and social security. That’s up to €2.5 billion more for the Belgian state. And there are, of course, other elements which cannot be quantified, such as the high quality of jobs created by US companies.

Wrapping up the panel discussion, Scott Beardsley, President of AmCham Belgium, said, “If there was ever any doubt about it in people’s minds, US companies are still important in Belgium, but I would also say that Belgium is important for US companies.”AmCham Belgium will release its 2013 Priorities for a Prosperous Belgium with specific policy recommendations for the Belgian Government on May 29.

The panel discussion on March 14 was immediately preceded by AmCham Belgium’s Annual General Meeting. Eight new board members were formally elected. In addition to the six who have been serving in an advisory capacity since their nomination last September, the new board members include Joost Maes from Egon Zehnder and Roland Teixeira de Mattos from GE Europe.

The four board members whose term came to an end this year were also all re-elected: Ludo Deklerck of Bird & Bird LLP, Jean Eylenbosch of Coca-Cola Enterprises Belgium, John Largent of Magic Monkey and Eric Lonbois of Accenture.

Building the Largest Free Trade Zone in the World

by Karel De Gucht, Trade Commissioner, European Commission

Two billion euros is the value of the goods and services that cross the Atlantic between the EU and the US everyday. Two trillion euros is slightly less than the value of the investment stocks that European and American firms hold in each other’s jurisdictions. The transatlantic relationship is the biggest commercial relationship in the world.

But if trade already flows so abundantly, why negotiate a new EU-US trade agreement?

First, despite the success of our relationship, there is still a great deal of untapped potential. Though the tariffs we impose on imports are low

– around 4% on average

– the volume of our trade

is enormous. As a result, every tariff we remove, even the lowest ones, will result in millions of euros of savings to companies, savings which can be reinvested for growth. For example, car parts sometimes cross the Atlantic more than once – as components on their first journey and then going back in the finished product – meaning they currently may pay tariffs twice.

But tariffs will only be a small piece of the deal. We are aiming for an even bigger package, which will include opening of markets for services and, very importantly, in public procurement. The most effort, however, will go into addressing those barriers that lie behind the customs border, such as differences in technical regulations, standards and certification requirements. These technical barriers to trade are estimated to have the same effect as if we had extra tariffs of between 10 and 20% per product.

As an example, rules in the US and the EU on car safety are similarly strict, as public safety is always our top priority.

But even if they have the same objective – to make cars safe for the road – the technical rules to achieve that objective differ. A car producer who wants to sell his car both in Europe and in the United States has to get it safety checked twice. This costs time and money. If we aligned our standards, or accepted the principle that a car which is found to be safe on one side of the Atlantic is also safe enough on the other, we could make real savings both for the producers, the regulators and ultimately for the consumers. If we do it well, we would be able to maintain the same levels of health and safety, but boost growth and create jobs with less red tape.

Second, because we are the biggest trade relationship in the world, transatlantic standards could be embryos of future world standards. This would mean that our businesses would not have the extra cost of producing for a plethora of different standards around the world. And because the same would apply to companies in other parts of the world, an ambitious transatlantic agreement would in effect be a global public good.

So I believe that it’s certainly not exaggerated to say that such a ‘transatlantic economic alliance’ will be groundbreaking. In short, it moves beyond anything we have done before. It could boost our economies by between 0.5% and 1% of GDP and offer real returns to everybody – expected €545 per average household in Europe – for next to no investment. Truly, this is the cheapest stimulus package you can imagine. Given that both Europe and America are recovering from the biggest economic crisis in living memory, we cannot afford to ignore these gains now. And all EU Member States stand to gain. In Belgium, for example, as Europe’s second largest port, Antwerp will benefit from the overall increase in trading volumes. In addition, exports of key Belgian products like high-quality beer and food products can also be expected to be winners.

Can we achieve it? Reaching an ambitious deal will not be easy. The more we seek to achieve, the more protected vested interests will seek to oppose us. And finally, we want to do this as quickly as we can – in two years, if possible – though speed will not trump quality. I am ready to go the extra mile to achieve it. ¦

Karel De Gucht has been European Commissioner for Trade since February 2010. Together with US Trade Representative Ron Kirk, he worked on a report recommending the launch of negotiations for a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) which was announced by US President Barack Obama, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso and European Council President Herman Van Rompuy on February 13, 2013.

A lawyer by training and a Belgian liberal (Open-VLD), he has held numerous political offices at both national and European level. He was first elected as a Member of the European Parliament at the age of 26 and has more recently been both Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs (2004-2009) before first joining the European Commission as Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid (2009-2010).

General Command : Army Units Destroyed Israeli Vehicle Crossed Cease-Fire Line

May 21, 2013

DAMASCUS, SANA – General Command of the Army and the Armed Forces said that our armed forces destroyed an Israeli vehicle entered from the occupied territories and crossed the cease-fire line towards the village of Bir Ajam.

“The village is located in the liberated area of Syrian territories where there are armed terrorist groups, ” the General Command said in a statement issued Tuesday.

“Following that, the Israeli enemy fired two rockets from the occupied site of Tal al-Faras toward one of our sites in al-Zubaydiah village; no casualties reported, ” the statement said.

It added that the aggression aims at raising the terrorist groups’ collapsed moral due to the painful blows they received at the hands of our armed forces in more than one place, especially in al-Qsier area.

The General Command of the Army and the Armed Forces said that the blatant aggression confirms again the involvement of the Zionist entity in the ongoing events in Syria and the direct coordination with the armed terrorist gangs.

The statement stressed that any breach or an attempt to violate the state sovereignty will be responded.

It stressed that whoever thinks that he is able to test our strength, alert and readiness to maintain our dignity and sovereignty is mistaken.

'IDF intelligence chief: Israel’s next war will see heavy casualties'

In farewell meeting at the Knesset, Gen. Amos Yadlin says next conflict will hit Israel far harder than recent wars in Lebanon and Gaza – and hints for first the time at Israeli involvement in a 2007 strike on a nuclear plant in Syria...

In a final meeting at the Knesset, outgoing Military Intelligence chief Amos Yadlin warned on Tuesday that Israel’s next war would be fought on several fronts – causing far heavier damage and casualties than other recent conflicts. A new war would be far deadlier than Israel’s last two, relatively short, conficts in Lebanon in 2006 and Gaza in 2008-9. Syria, particularly, posed a greated military obstacle to Israel than at any time in the past three decades, Yadlin said, having amassed advanced Russian-built antiaircraft missiles that seriously limited the operational freedom of the Israel Air Force. Yadlin also hinted at Israel’s involvement in attacking a Syrian nuclear facility in September 2007. That strike has been widely attributed to Israel, but the government has never officially taken responsibility for the operation. The veteran soldier, who turns 60 next year, told the committee that during his position as MI chief he had contended with two enemy nuclear programs – apparently a reference to Iran and Syria. Yadlin also warned of a growing threat from the Iranian nuclear program, saying Iran now had enough highly enriched uranium to build a bomb.

War on Syria: A 'Greater Middle East'...

Image

As a reminder:

Germany ordered a small fleet of Israeli Heron spy drones

Germany last year ordered a small fleet of Israeli Heron spy drones designed to provide real-time images above a battlefield. That has brought German jet pilots to coastal Ein Shemer air base for accelerated retraining on the unmanned propeller planes, already daubed with their flag and Iron Cross emblem. “It’s for the need of the ground troops, for our own protection, like convoy protection,” said a Luftwaffe (airforce) major, who formerly flew a Tornado fighter-bomber on Afghan reconnaissance missions and could not be named due to military secrecy.
Israel is a pioneer of combat drones, having deployed them in Lebanon in the Palestinian territories. Heron’s manufacturer, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), says it is also used by Canadian, French and Australian forces in Afghanistan. On December 12, 2012, Germany has expelled four employees of the Syrian embassy in Berlin in a diplomatic move to put pressure on the regime of President Bashar Assad. German MPs of the lower house of parliament voted 461-86 on Friday, December 14, 2012, to approve the deployment of two Patriot missile batteries and 400 troops in Turkey along the Syrian border, Reuters reported.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu recently expressed Turkey’s desire for a leading role in a Greater Middle East, while also claiming that Turkey’s borders are NATO’s borders.

A Germany led by Himmler and the SS to destroy Russia

Image

Himmler, whose name would be associated with Nazi infamy and forever remembered as a perpetrator of the Holocaust, was driven by two conflicting motives as the war wound down: He was a fanatic Nazi who worshipped Hitler, and a treacherous opportunist terrified of his future as the curtain of defeat descended on the Third Reich. Retribution for his sins, he knew, would be metted out by the victors. Himmler was considered Hitler's trusted acolyte. Yet, because he was convinced that Germany would lose the war and he would be among those held accountable for war crimes by the Allies, he began to entertain thoughts of high treason against his Fuhrer as early as mid-1942—possibly earlier when Hitler's panzers failed to reach Moscow and the United States was drawn into the war. He hoped for absolution from the Western Allies by offering to seize power from Hitler and negotiate peace in exchange for their license, if not their help, in continuing the struggle against the Soviet Union.

The person whose influence on Himmler was probably greatest was his physical therapist, Felix Kersten, a talented masseur of Baltic German origins and Finnish nationality. Kersten, working in tandem with Walter Schellenberg, head of Nazi security intelligence (Sicherheitsdienst, or SD), made contact with the OSS on behalf of Himmler with the intention of conspiring to overthrow Hitler. Based on declassified files, particularly Hewitt's report, a fascinating story unfolds.

Hewitt in Sweden

No stranger to Sweden, Hewitt had many influential contacts there, including wealthy businessman Jacob Wallenberg. He had met Wallenberg in 1932 while in Stockholm representing a trustee in the bankruptcy of the International Match Corporation, an American holding company. In the course of the company's reorganization, the Wallenbergs had assumed control of the Swedish Match Corporation and its far-flung international subsidiaries. More than a decade later, in August 1943, as war raged in Europe, Hewitt made contact again with his old acquaintance. Aware that Hewitt was well connected in the United States and was even a friend of President Roosevelt, Wallenberg, secretly tied in with the German Resistance, confided freely in him. Explaining that he was "in touch with a cross section of the high ranking German financial and manufacturing interests," Wallenberg told him that Resistance "cells were forming in Germany for the purpose of overthrowing Hitler." He asked Hewitt if he "would be willing to meet with representatives of such cells."

In commenting on Hitler, Wallenberg explained to Hewitt that "his friends" in Germany—a euphemistic reference to Resistance members he knew—were somewhat perplexed about Reichsführer Himmler's true motives. While he was supposed to be entirely loyal to Hitler, certain changes were taking place in Germany that could only raise questions in the minds of intelligence observers. Hewitt concluded that Wallenberg, though vague on this score, believed that Himmler was looking to oust Hitler and take over Germany's government himself as a prelude to reaching a peace agreement with the Western Allies. It was Wallenberg's opinion that Himmler was convinced that Germany would lose, and had begun searching for ways to ingratiate himself with the Western Allies. According to Wallenberg, Himmler envisioned using the SS and the Nazi Party security apparatus as bargaining chips in an unrealistic scenario in which Germany, governed by him in alliance with the Western Powers, would turn their guns on the Russians and defeat the mutually hated Communist bogey.

Strangely insensitive to the revulsion felt toward him by the West for atrocities he was known to have committed, but well aware of his fate if the Russians were to capture him upon Germany's ultimate capitulation, Himmler was sending out feelers to the Americans in Sweden and other neutral countries through a variety of go-betweens. His principal point men in this treacherous enterprise were Walter Schellenberg and Felix Kersten. As Hewitt himself discovered, Schellenberg, responsible for foreign intelligence, was useful because of his professional contacts and ability to hide his special tasks for Himmler within his organization. Kersten, who traveled often to Sweden, where he was establishing a permanent home, was able to make contact with the American OSS without attracting attention.

Three months would go by before Wallenberg and Hewitt would meet again. In the meantime, Himmler had been named the interior minister by Hitler, making him still more powerful. When Jacob Wallenberg finally re-appeared—having been in Germany or elsewhere in Europe—he reported that the Resistance situation had changed in Germany because of increased focus by the Gestapo on the military—particularly Abwehr dissidents and certain prominent civilians with whom they were allied in the Widerstand. According to Hewitt's report, it was Wallenberg's opinion that the only alternatives to Hitler were Himmler, backed primarily by the Waffen SS and the Gestapo, or the Wehrmacht secret opposition cells if they could survive Gestapo harassment and rally the main body of the army before Hitler became aware of what was going on and destroyed them. What Hewitt and presumably Jacob Wallenberg did not know at this time was that Hitler's deputy, Martin Bormann, and Gestapo chief Heinrich Müller had found a way to establish secret contact with the Soviets, on whom they were placing their bets for determining the fate of Europe after the War. Nonetheless, it had already become abundantly clear to Hewitt that the secret "organized" opposition to Hitler was a complicated matter.

The Pitch

Hewitt met Kersten in October 1943, on the urging of a Swedish friend who held a key position in Wallenberg's business organization. Although the friend was not acquainted with Kersten personally, he had been told that the therapist was one of the most powerful men in Germany—an exaggeration, perhaps, but Kersten had by then acquired a remarkable influence over the Reichsführer SS. Himmler had become dependent on Kersten because of the masseur's unique ability to alleviate his chronic, sometimes unbearable, stomach pains. A distinguished British World War II intelligence officer and eminent historian has observed that Kersten was able to "manipulate the conscience as well as the stomach of that... inhuman, but naïve, mystical tyrant of the 'New Order.'

Feigning a "bad back" to provide him cover for frequent meetings with the masseur, and realizing that Kersten, too, was interested in the meetings for political reasons, Hewitt got right down to business—but always mythically insisting that he was not speaking for the US government. Dubious about any liaison with emissaries from the Devil's domain, OSS officers had brushed off earlier efforts by the Nazis to make contact. Among other reasons, the Americans were concerned lest Stalin resent and protest any apparent machination that left him out of the picture. Roosevelt, in particular, did not want to aggravate Stalin's paranoia by creating an appearance of weakening the solidarity of the Grand Alliance. Seeing a political action opportunity to sow discord among the Nazi leaders, however, Hewitt was not reticent about responding positively to Kersten. He sensed that the therapist was a victim of circumstances beyond his control; he was not a Nazi, nor was he irrevocably bound to Himmler, witness his having begun the process of moving to Sweden. He believed Kersten was eager to establish his own relationships with the West rather than be compromised by his link to the Reichsführer when the Third Reich crumbled in defeat.

Hewitt reported that the climax of Kersten's several conversations with him was a startling overture urging Western Allies to collaborate in ousting Hitler and join forces with a Germany led by Himmler and the SS to destroy Russia. To quote Hewitt's report: "The doctor [Kersten] urged me to come to Germany to discuss Himmler's position with him, and to see whether a settlement might be possible. He indicated clearly that, on certain conditions, Himmler was prepared to overthrow Hitler and that he was the only man who had power to do so in Germany."

Kerry in Moscow to press US agenda against Syria

US Secretary of State John Kerry has arrived in Moscow in a high profile bid to press top Russian officials against backing the Syrian government amid the recent US-backed Israeli aggression against the nation.

Issues surrounding Israeli aerial and missile strikes against Syrian installations are widely expected to be the top agenda in the talks as the US has announced a major effort to begin providing military aid for foreign-backed militant gangs, trying to remove President Bashar al-Assad from power, press reports said Tuesday.

Russia has already expressed major concerns over the Israeli attacks and warned that such acts of aggression threaten to expand tensions to neighboring countries.

Despite growing US-led pressures on Moscow to halt its support for the Syrian government, Russia has so far resisted efforts by the US and its allies to wage a direct military intervention against Syria, insisting that the crisis will have to be resolved diplomatically.

Kerry will meet with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, although the two greatly disagree on the events in Syria and the future of President Bashar al-Assad.

This while the Obama administration has recently said it does not rule out providing arms for the militant gangs in Syria which include al-Qaeda-linked terrorist elements.

Ahead of Kerry's visit to Moscow, Russia's foreign ministry called on the West to stop politicizing the issue of chemical weapons in Syria,.

This is while Carla Del Ponte, a member of the UN commission probing the alleged use of the nerve gas sarin in Syria, announced on Sunday that the country’s opposition forces, and not the Assad regime, were behind the use of chemical weapons.

There are "strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof" of sarin gas being used "on the part of the opposition, the rebels, not by the government authorities," she reportedly told a Swiss-Italian television outlet.

Following his visit to Russia, Kerry is to travel to Rome to meet with Italian, Israeli and Jordanian officials to discuss Middle East issues, including the Syrian situation.

Syria: desecration of holly sites by the Wahabi terrorists

Syria.desecration of holly sites.jpg

3 May 2013

Wahhabi terrorists compel Jones style crimes

SHAFAQNA - Press TV has conducted an interview with Mohsen Saleh, professor at the Lebanese University from the capital city of Beirut to share his thoughts on the issue of the desecration of holly sites in Syria by the Wahabi terrorists.

What follows is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Mohsen Saleh we are looking at the desecration of a shrine here and of there is anything that incites sectarianism, these acts by these Western-backed insurgents, obviously are a testament to that.

What kind of purpose do they have behind this act?

Saleh: Well, this shows that these people do not respect neither the Muslim sacred places nor the innocent people, who have been killed in cold blood by these terrorist groups.

And I think that who are talking about sectarianism and are talking about Sunni and Shia..., well, Ibn Adi was one of the great companions of the Prophet [Mohammad] peace be upon him, and he was well known of his piousness and his well understanding of the message of Islam and he worked tightly with the companions and especially with Imam Ali, may peace be upon him and his family and that shows that these gangs..., I guess we cannot say about them that these are Sunni or al-Qaeda or al-Nusrah or whoever may talk about Sunnis, I think that they do not belong to any of the human beings in this world. They belong to the murderers, who are killing people and are trying to ruin all the sacred places and if they can ruin and put under rubble the Ka’ba there would not be a shortage from that.

Press TV: Well, based on what you said there, then this supports the fact, I would think Mohsen Saleh, that obviously there are many of these fighters that are being financially backed, that are being supported coming from other countries, those countries within Africa for example; all the way from Tunisia and downwards.

So, is this a mixed bag, so to speak, of fighters that are fighting the Syrian government forces there in Syria?

Saleh:

I think that these people are financed and armed by the Wahabis who believe that all other Muslims are unbelievers and they do not think that other than the Wahabis, this group is a Muslim, whether the Shia or the Sunni or the Maliki or the Shafi’i and also they have been ordered by the American’s and the Europeans, who really disregard any kind of sacred places of the Muslims, they are like Terry Jones exactly, who burnt the Qur’an, wanted to put the Qur’an into trial and that shows the real face and the genuine face of these people that they do not belong to Islam and when they talk about despotism and dictatorship in Syria, they really mean to serve the Zionist and the American agenda in the region.

And their slogans and their practices on the ground show the real face of these people that they do not belong to these people in the region, whether in Syria or in Iraq or in other places.

I guess that these people belong to the tribal thinking, who have been really working with the Wahabis and the CIA and the Israeli Mossad and they do not belong to this culture.

The values of Muslims prohibit them from doing such acts, what they have been doing today and before today and yesterday and all the really shameless works they are doing in Syria and in Iraq.

US. military intelligence and chemical weapons

United States support for Iraq during the Iran–Iraq War, against post-revolutionary Iran, included several billion dollars worth of economic aid, the sale of dual-use technology, non-U.S. origin weaponry, military intelligence, Special Operations training, and direct involvement in warfare against Iran.

Support from the U.S. for Iraq was not a secret and was frequently discussed in open session of the Senate and House of Representatives. On June 9, 1992, Ted Koppel reported on ABC's Nightline, "It is becoming increasingly clear that George Bush, operating largely behind the scenes throughout the 1980s, initiated and supported much of the financing, intelligence, and military help that built Saddam's Iraq into the power it became", and "Reagan/Bush administrations permitted—and frequently encouraged—the flow of money, agricultural credits, dual-use technology, chemicals, and weapons to Iraq."

On August 18, 2002, the New York Times carried a front-page story headlined, "Officers say U.S. aided Iraq despite the use of gas". Quoting anonymous US "senior military officers", the NYT "revealed" that in the 1980s, the administration of US President Ronald Reagan covertly provided "critical battle planning assistance at a time when American intelligence knew that Iraqi commanders would employ chemical weapons in waging the decisive battles of the Iran-Iraq war". The story made a brief splash in the international media, then died.

Use of chemical weapons

Vietnam.Agent.orange.victims.jpg

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, under the influence of western members of the Security Council, expanded the jurisdiction of the investigation committee in a letter directed to the Council without justification, attempting to make its mission extend to investigating all alleged cased of chemical weapons use in Syria.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said that the suggestion made by Ban Ki-moon to expand investigating the use of chemical weapons in Syria to cover all alleged cases rather than just investigate the March 19th incident in Aleppo is unconstructive.

The western colonial powers used almost in all their wars chemical weapons against innocent civilians.  This proves their hypocrisy again.

Agent Orange victims still need support

March 9, 2013

Nguyen Minh Y, director of external affairs for VAVA  (Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin):

Chemical warfare by the US in Vietnam from 1961-71 imposed huge damage on the country. The herbicide Agent Orange was sprayed over 30,000 villages, destroying forest and food supplies, and causing enormous environmental and economic destruction.

"Around 25% of South Vietnam was sprayed, with 2 million hectares of forest destroyed. Currently, there are 28 to 30 hotspots for dioxin contamination in Vietnam.

"There have also been devastating effects on the health of the Vietnamese people. The total number of victims is estimated to be at least 3 million.

"Agent Orange not only affected the people of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, but also soldiers from the US, and its allies, including Australia. But those most affected were the people of Vietnam."

Nguyen said the victims of AO have a range of immediate and long-term needs, including healing, housing, jobs, caring, treatment and rehabilitation, education and integration into the community. They need regular medication for deformities and mental problems.

"Chemical warfare, including the spraying of Agent Orange, is a serious violation of international law. The US, Australian and New Zealand governments have so far provided some limited compensation to their own veterans.

"Up to 2013, the US has reported to have spent some $40 million to clean-up of affected sites in Vietnam, but no one knows how the money is being spent.

Syria: Damascus bombing was a war crime

Image

February 23, 2013

UN-Arab League Special Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi has condemned the recent bomb attack in Damascus and described it as a "war crime."

In a statement issued on Friday, Brahimi said he "strongly condemns the savage and horrible explosion in Damascus yesterday, which resulted in the killing of around 100 and the injuring of two hundred and fifty civilians. Nothing could justify such horrible actions that amount to war crimes under international law."

Syria has asked the United Nations to issue a clear condemnation of the bombing in the Syrian capital.

In letters to the UN secretary general and the chairman of the UN Security Council (UNSC) on Thursday, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said the Security Council’s adoption of a firm stance on the deadly attack would send a message to terrorist groups and those who support them.

“But if the UNSC turns a blind eye to this terrorist act, just as it did previously, it will deepen doubts about its seriousness in combating terrorism and its commitment to implementing its resolutions in this regard,” the Syrian Foreign Ministry added.

Last month, Brahimi asked the UN Security Council to establish an international body to conduct an independent investigation on war crimes in Syria.

The Syria crisis began in March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of security forces, have been killed in the violence.

The Syrian government says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.

War on Syria: European Union and Israel

“Herons” repainted in the colors of Germany

The drones (unmanned aircraft) used by NATO to bomb Afghanistan, Pakistan and Libya are designed by Israel. The Israelis are denied entry into Afghanistan, but nevertheless, the Israeli drones provide ‘security’ for the coalition in Afghanistan. Israeli drones are used by Canada, France, Australia and Germany in Afghanistan. Today, Israeli specialists are on the air base at Ein Shemer for training the flight of “Herons” repainted in the colors of Germany. Many of Israeli military products are standard NATO-compatible.

German MPs of the lower house of parliament voted 461-86 on Friday, December 14, 2012, to approve the deployment of two Patriot missile batteries and 400 troops in Turkey along the Syrian border, Reuters reported.

Turkey's and French' ambitions in the 'New Middle East'

Fighters against Ottoman Empire in Syria,.1916..jpg

Since 2010, C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. Weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. The United States is setting up joint military, intelligence and medical working teams with Israel, Turkey and Jordan.

On August 9, 2012, former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, the spearhead of last year’s campaign to oust Muammar Gaddafi, called for 'rapid international action on Syria', comparing the current crisis with the situation in Libya. Sarkozy spoke with the Syrian opposition leader, Abdulbaset Sieda and they noted a 'total convergence in their views on the seriousness of the Syrian crisis as well as the need for rapid action by the international community to avoid massacres,' said a statement signed by Sarkozy and Sieda, the president of the Istanbul-based Syrian National Council. "They agreed that there are great similarities with the Libyan crisis," said the statement. On this way Sarkozy was putting pressure on French President Hollande, who has been much more moderate on the issue compared to his flamboyant predecessor.

On August 11, 2012, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu were considering implementing no-fly zones for Syria after holding talks in Istanbul. According to Reuters, Clinton said that Ankara and Washington 'need to plan ways to assist the rebels fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad – including possibly implementing a no-fly zone'.

On October 4, 2012, Adm. George Stavridis, the commander of US European Command (USEUCOM) and NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), held a Closed-Door Meeting In Turkey. They met with Chief of Turkish General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel in Ankara. The meeting took place on Tuesday at General Staff headquarters but was only announced to the public in a statement released by the General Staff on Wednesday. The talks were closed to the press and the statement did not elaborate on what Stavridis and Ozel discussed.

On November 28, 2012, NATO General-Secretary Anders Fogh Rasmussen said that NATO allies 'will respond positively to Turkey’s demand for Patriot missiles within “days” and that command of the system will be under NATO control'. “Russia has no right to intervene in this process. This is a NATO decision; third parties have nothing to say,” Rasmussen said about Russian objections to the deployment.

Earlier this year, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu declared that Turkey would be the 'owner, pioneer and servant of the post-Arab Spring Middle East'. Turkey has the second largest NATO army.

Photo: Fighters against Ottoman Empire in Syria, 1916. After World War I ended, the Ottoman Turks were finally driven out, and France occupied Syria. The French administered and exercised control of Syria until it finally gained its independence in 1946. France was the first NATO-member to recognize the so called Syrian opposition. It is clear that Turkey and France want to re-colonize Syria with the aid if its NATO-partners and that they have big personal ambitions for the 'New Middle East'.

Syria: Internet censured by western countries

SyrianArabNewsAgency.jpg

The website of the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA is regularly blocked by Washington that doesn't stop its war propaganda.

Some days ago SANA was inaccessible again: 'Page Web inaccessible - Unable to load web page on Google Chrome, because www.sana.sy did not respond in time. It is possible that the site is blocked or you have problems with your Internet connection - Error 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT)'

Google Research doesn't show actually SANA's website under the searching words 'latest news Syria'. The censure comes just after France and Britain recognized the so called 'Syrian oppossition', provided with money and weapons by the western countries.

The Internet search engines are in the hands of the U.S. government which doesn't want a political solution for Syria and doesn't stop its financial and military aid to terrorist groups in Turkey and Syria.

Warfare and sexual abuse

Marcel_nieuwsblad_001.jpg

On 11.11.2012, George Entwistle resigned as director general of the BBC, just two months into the job, to take responsibility for the child sex allegation on the flagship news programme Newsnight.

The BBC, celebrating its 90th anniversary, is affectionately known in Britain as "Auntie", and respected around much of the world.

But with 22,000 staff working at eight national TV channels, 50 radio stations and an extensive Internet operation, critics say it is hampered by a complex and overly bureaucratic and hierarchical management structure.

Journalists said this had become worse under Entwistle's predecessor Mark Thompson after the BBC was castigated by a public inquiry over a report alleging government impropriety in the fevered build up to war in Iraq.

One of the BBC's most prominent figures, Newsnight presenter Jeremy Paxman, said since the Iraq report furore, management had become bloated while cash had been cut from programme budgets.

Child abuse is not limited to the BBC but, as the daily war propaganda, is a part of the western values.

The Zandvoort childporn case (88.539 victims), first came to light in 1998 when Belgian founder of child support Group Werkgroep Morkhoven, Marcel Vervloesem, provided a mountain of evidence to Dutch police indicating the operation of a systematic network which dealt in the kidnapping, torture and sexual abuse of children, even infants.

Included in this evidence were high-profile names and matching bank account details proving their involvement.

The following investigative TV report about the Zandvoort case was broadcast on French TV in May 2010.

BBC sex scandal widens, former director starts at New York Times

November 11, 2012

The cover-up of child-molestation scandals at British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Britain’s flagship broadcasting medium, continued to boil Sunday as its chairman called the organization a “ghastly mess.”

One day earlier, BBC Chairman Chris Patten, 68, stood outside the BBC’s expansive London headquarters with George Entwistle, director general, as Entwistle resigned after failing to clean up after the public relations tsunami that struck a few weeks ago.

At the heart of the decades-old child molestation scandal is longtime BBC television host, Jimmy Savile, who died at 84 in 2011.

Authorities suspect Savile may have sexually abused up to 300 young people in BBC studios, hospitals and children’s homes over many years.

Savile, a British television staple, allegedly used his position as children charities advocate to approach vulnerable minors in the 1970s and 80s, according to a New York Times report.

“Does the BBC need a thorough structural overhaul? Of course it does,” the chairman of the BBC Trust, Chris Patten, said on “The Andrew Marr Show,” the BBC’s flagship Sunday morning talk show, after the resignation of the broadcaster’s chief executive.

Entwistle, at his post only eight weeks, became the subject of continued outrage largely due to fallout from a Nov. 2 report on the BBC “Newsnight,” program that incorrectly implicated a former Conservative Party politician in the growing pedophile scandal.

Alistair McAlpine, 70, who was wrongly tagged by “Newsnight” staff as being involved, has suggested he will seek damages against the media conglomerate.

Upon his resignation, Entwistle said it reflected “unacceptable journalistic standards” and never should have been broadcast, referring the faulted “Newsnight” segment that failed to fact-check information that would have exculpated McAlpine.

British media commentators and pundits say appointing a new chief executive will not return BBC to its former status. Many question the need for a huge public-service broadcaster in an era of expanded media sources.

At question is whether BBC should retain the advantages granted to it under its royal charter financed by a mandatory $230-a-year license fee paid by those who own television sets in the country.

Currently, the heavily-subsidized media organization has 23,000 employees, a $6 billion annual budget and dominates British broadcasting.

BBC is headquartered in a billion-dollar complex.

The scandal has spread across the ocean to affect The New York Times, a left-leaning American newspaper located in its namesake.

Entwistle succeeded Mark Thompson, who stepped down in September after eight years as director general at BBC to become chief executive of The New York Times.

Though he was director-general at BBC, Thompson denies knowing anything about the failed “Newsnight” investigation of Mr. Savile, plans to cancel it, or even that it involved allegations of pedophilia. Thompson also denies ever having met Savile.

During a recent segment of “The Andrew Marr Show,” the BBC’s flagship Sunday morning talk show, popular host Jonathan Dimbleby said that because of the layers of bureaucracy between Mr. Entwistle and the “Newsnight” producers, “George was at the receiving end of nothing, when he should have known everything.”

Patten echoed that analysis on the Marr show when he said “there are more senior leaders in the BBC than in the Chinese Communist Party.

”However other sources, for example UK's Mail Online, have reported that Thompson's office was alerted about the child abuse claims.

War with Syria will lead to the downfall of Turkey

Syrische.'oppositie'.jpeg

Some months ago, Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for Syrian terrorists and C.I.A. officers are operating secretly in southern Turkey. The weapons, including automatic rifles, rocket-propelled grenades, ammunition and some antitank weapons, are being funneled mostly across the Turkish border by way of a shadowy network of intermediaries including Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood and paid for by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

The United States is setting up joint military, intelligence and 'medical' working teams with Israel, Turkey and Jordan.

On October 4, 2012, Adm. George Stavridis, the commander of US European Command (USEUCOM) and NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), met with Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel in Ankara. The meeting took place at General Staff headquarters but was only announced to the public in a statement released by the General Staff some days later. The talks were closed to the press and the statement did not elaborate on what Stavridis and Ozel discussed. It proves once again that the Turkish government, which is not supported by the Turkish people, organizes the arming of terrorists for bombings in Syria with the cooperation of NATO which is an instrument of the US and Israel.

The Muslim World loses its faith in the Turkish leaders and there is a growing political division in Turkey.

Through Nato, the US can exercise its imperial power

NATO SummitChicago.June.1.2012.jpg

Through Nato, the US is able to exercise influence over the domestic affairs of other countries and to exercise its imperial power

American and NATO forces are training Syrian terrorist groups in southeastern Turkish city of Hakkari.

The US is also involved in smuggling arms into Syria from Incirlik military base in Turkey in addition to providing financial support for Syrian terrorist groups.

Through NATO, working with various Western European intelligence agencies, the CIA set up a network of stay behind “secret armies” which were responsible for dozens of terrorist atrocities across Western Europe over decades.

In Turkey in 1960, the stay behind army, working with the army, staged a coup d’état and killed Prime Minister Adnan Menderes; in Algeria in 1961, the French stay-behind army staged a coup with the CIA against the French government of Algiers, which ultimately failed; in 1967, the Greek stay-behind army staged a coup and imposed a military dictatorship; in 1971 in Turkey, after a military coup, the stay-behind army engaged in “domestic terror” and killed hundreds; in 1977 in Spain, the stay behind army carried out a massacre in Madrid; in 1980 in Turkey, the head of the stay behind army staged a coup and took power; in 1985 in Belgium, the stay behind attacked and shot shoppers randomly in supermarkets, killing 28; in Switzerland in 1990, the former head of the Swiss stay behind wrote the US Defense Department he would reveal “the whole truth,” and was found the next day stabbed to death with his own bayonet; and in 1995, England revealed that the MI6 and SAS helped set up stay behind armies across Western Europe.

NATO claims that the idea behind the NATO’s missile defense plans, is to secure Europe from attack by Iran or some other hostile power.  But in reality, through Nato, the US is able to exercise influence over the domestic affairs of other countries and to exercise its imperial power.

The war against Syria is connected with the Operation Gladio.
Gladio was part of a post-World War II program set up by the CIA, MI6 and NATO supposedly to thwart future Soviet/communist invasions or influence in Italy and Western Europe. In fact, it became a state-sponsored right-wing terrorist network, involved in false flag operations and the subversion of democracy. Hundreds of innocent Europeans were killed during this operation.

H.R.1828

One Hundred Eighth Congress

of the day of January, two thousand and three

United States of America

AT THE FIRST SESSION

Begun and held at the City of Washington on Tuesday,

the seventh day of January, two thousand and three

An Act

To halt Syrian support for terrorism, end its occupation of Lebanon, and stop its

development of weapons of mass destruction, and by so doing hold Syria

accountable for the serious international security problems it has caused in the

Middle East, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the `Syria Accountability and Lebanese Sovereignty Restoration Act of 2003'.

SEC. 2. FINDINGS.

Congress makes the following findings:

...

(16) In the State of the Union address on January 29, 2002, President Bush declared that the United States will `work closely with our coalition to deny terrorists and their state sponsors the materials, technology, and expertise to make and deliver weapons of mass destruction'.

(17) The Government of Syria continues to develop and deploy short- and medium-range ballistic missiles.

(18) According to the December 2001 unclassified Central Intelligence Agency report entitled `Foreign Missile Developments and the Ballistic Missile Threat through 2015', `Syria maintains a ballistic missile and rocket force of hundreds of FROG rockets, Scuds, and SS-21 SRBMs [and] Syria has developed [chemical weapons] warheads for its Scuds'.

(19) The Government of Syria is pursuing the development and production of biological and chemical weapons and has a nuclear research and development program that is cause for concern.

(20) According to the Central Intelligence Agency's `Unclassified Report to Congress on the Acquisition of Technology Relating to Weapons of Mass Destruction and Advanced Conventional Munitions', released January 7, 2003: `[Syria] already holds a stockpile of the nerve agent sarin but apparently is trying to develop more toxic and persistent nerve agents. Syria remains dependent on foreign sources for key elements of its [chemical weapons] program, including precursor chemicals and key production equipment. It is highly probable that Syria also is developing an offensive [biological weapons] capability.'.

(21) On May 6, 2002, the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, John Bolton, stated: `The United States also knows that Syria has long had a chemical warfare program. It has a stockpile of the nerve agent sarin and is engaged in research and development of the more toxic and persistent nerve agent VX. Syria, which has signed but not ratified the [Biological Weapons Convention], is pursuing the development of biological weapons and is able to produce at least small amounts of biological warfare agents.'.

(22) According to the Central Intelligence Agency's `Unclassified Report to Congress on the Acquisition of Technology Relating to Weapons of Mass Destruction and Advanced Conventional Munitions', released January 7, 2003: `Russia and Syria have approved a draft cooperative program on cooperation on civil nuclear power. In principal, broader access to Russian expertise provides opportunities for Syria to expand its indigenous capabilities, should it decide to pursue nuclear weapons.'.

(23) Under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (21 UST 483), which entered force on March 5, 1970, and to which Syria is a party, Syria has undertaken not to acquire or produce nuclear weapons and has accepted full scope safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency to detect diversions of nuclear materials from peaceful activities to the production of nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices.

(24) Syria is not a party to the Chemical Weapons Convention or the Biological Weapons Convention, which entered into force on April 29, 1997, and on March 26, 1975, respectively.

(25) Syrian President Bashar Assad promised Secretary of State Powell in February 2001 to end violations of Security Council Resolution 661, which restricted the sale of oil and other commodities by Saddam Hussein's regime, except to the extent authorized by other relevant resolutions, but this pledge was never fulfilled.

(26) Syria's illegal imports and transshipments of Iraqi oil during Saddam Hussein's regime earned Syria $50,000,000 or more per month as Syria continued to sell its own Syrian oil at market prices.

(27) Syria's illegal imports and transshipments of Iraqi oil earned Saddam Hussein's regime $2,000,000 per day.

(28) On March 28, 2003, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld warned: `[W]e have information that shipments of military supplies have been crossing the border from Syria into Iraq, including night-vision goggles * * * These deliveries pose a direct threat to the lives of coalition forces. We consider such trafficking as hostile acts, and will hold the Syrian government accountable for such shipments.'.

(29) According to Article 23(1) of the United Nations Charter, members of the United Nations are elected as nonpermanent members of the United Nations Security Council with `due regard being specially paid, in the first instance to the contribution of members of the United Nations to the maintenance of international peace and security and to other purposes of the Organization'.

(30) Despite Article 23(1) of the United Nations Charter, Syria was elected on October 8, 2001, to a 2-year term as a nonpermanent member of the United Nations Security Council beginning January 1, 2002, and served as President of the Security Council during June 2002 and August 2003.

(31) On March 31, 2003, the Syrian Foreign Minister, Farouq al-Sharra, made the Syrian regime's intentions clear when he explicitly stated that `Syria's interest is to see the invaders defeated in Iraq'.

(32) On April 13, 2003, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld charged that `busloads' of Syrian fighters entered Iraq with `hundreds of thousands of dollars' and leaflets offering rewards for dead American soldiers.

(33) On September 16, 2003, the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, John Bolton, appeared before the Subcommittee on the Middle East and Central Asia of the Committee on International Relations of the House of Representatives, and underscored Syria's `hostile actions' toward coalition forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Under Secretary Bolton added that: `Syria allowed military equipment to flow into Iraq on the eve of and during the war. Syria permitted volunteers to pass into Iraq to attack and kill our service members during the war, and is still doing so * * * [Syria's] behavior during Operation Iraqi Freedom underscores the importance of taking seriously reports and information on Syria's WMD capabilities.'.

(34) During his appearance before the Committee on International Relations of the House of Representatives on September 25, 2003, Ambassador L. Paul Bremer, III, Administrator of the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq, stated that out of the 278 third-country nationals who were captured by coalition forces in Iraq, the `single largest group are Syrians'.

SEC. 3. SENSE OF CONGRESS.

It is the sense of Congress that--

(1) the Government of Syria should immediately and unconditionally halt support for terrorism, permanently and openly declare its total renunciation of all forms of terrorism, and close all terrorist offices and facilities in Syria, including the offices of Hamas, Hizballah, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine--General Command;

(2) the Government of Syria should--

(A) immediately and unconditionally stop facilitating transit from Syria to Iraq of individuals, military equipment, and all lethal items, except as authorized by the Coalition Provisional Authority or a representative, internationally recognized Iraqi government;

(B) cease its support for `volunteers' and terrorists who are traveling from and through Syria into Iraq to launch attacks; and

(C) undertake concrete, verifiable steps to deter such behavior and control the use of territory under Syrian control;

(1) On June 24, 2002, President Bush stated `Syria must choose the right side in the war on terror by closing terrorist camps and expelling terrorist organizations'.

(2) United Nations Security Council Resolution 1373 (September 28, 2001) mandates that all states `refrain from providing any form of support, active or passive, to entities or persons involved in terrorist acts', take `the necessary steps to prevent the commission of terrorist acts', and `deny safe haven to those who finance, plan, support, or commit terrorist acts'.

(3) The Government of Syria is currently prohibited by United States law from receiving United States assistance because it has repeatedly provided support for acts of international terrorism, as determined by the Secretary of State for purposes of section 6(j)(1) of the Export Administration Act of 1979 (50 U.S.C. App. 2405(j)(1)) and other relevant provisions of law.

(4) Although the Department of State lists Syria as a state sponsor of terrorism and reports that Syria provides `safe haven and support to several terrorist groups', fewer United States sanctions apply with respect to Syria than with respect to any other country that is listed as a state sponsor of terrorism.

(5) Terrorist groups, including Hizballah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine--General Command, maintain offices, training camps, and other facilities on Syrian territory, and operate in areas of Lebanon occupied by the Syrian armed forces and receive supplies from Iran through Syria.

(6) United Nations Security Council Resolution 520 (September 17, 1982) calls for `strict respect of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, unity and political independence of Lebanon under the sole and exclusive authority of the Government of Lebanon through the Lebanese Army throughout Lebanon'.

(7) Approximately 20,000 Syrian troops and security personnel occupy much of the sovereign territory of Lebanon exerting undue influence upon its government and undermining its political independence.

(8) Since 1990 the Senate and House of Representatives have passed seven bills and resolutions which call for the withdrawal of Syrian armed forces from Lebanon.

(9) On March 3, 2003, Secretary of State Colin Powell declared that it is the objective of the United States to `let Lebanon be ruled by the Lebanese people without the presence of [the Syrian] occupation army'.

(10) Large and increasing numbers of the Lebanese people from across the political spectrum in Lebanon have mounted peaceful and democratic calls for the withdrawal of the Syrian Army from Lebanese soil.

(11) Israel has withdrawn all of its armed forces from Lebanon in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 425 (March 19, 1978), as certified by the United Nations Secretary General.

(12) Even in the face of this United Nations certification that acknowledged Israel's full compliance with Security Council Resolution 425, Syrian- and Iranian-supported Hizballah continues to attack Israeli outposts at Shebaa Farms, under the pretense that Shebaa Farms is territory from which Israel was required to withdraw by Security Counsel Resolution 425, and Syrian- and Iranian-supported Hizballah and other militant organizations continue to attack civilian targets in Israel.

(13) Syria will not allow Lebanon--a sovereign country--to fulfill its obligation in accordance with Security Council Resolution 425 to deploy its troops to southern Lebanon.

(14) As a result, the Israeli-Lebanese border and much of southern Lebanon is under the control of Hizballah, which continues to attack Israeli positions, allows Iranian Revolutionary Guards and other militant groups to operate freely in the area, and maintains thousands of rockets along Israel's northern border, destabilizing the entire region.

(15) On February 12, 2003, Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet stated the following with respect to the Syrian- and Iranian-supported Hizballah: `[A]s an organization with capability and worldwide presence [it] is [al Qaeda's] equal if not a far more capable organization * * * [T]hey're a notch above in many respects, in terms of in their relationship with the Iranians and the training they receive, [which] puts them in a state-sponsored category with a potential for lethality that's quite great.'.
